2000 Y61 3 litre turbo - good idea or not?

Jace, I'm not keen on the looks of the Terrano, I know loads of people on here swear by them and really like them, and I'm sure they are brilliant cars, but I prefer big square boxy cars, even the Y61 is a bit curvy for me, but I will have to get the new car in the next couple of weeks...

2000 Y61 3 litre turbo - good idea or not?

Yes, I realised it had been damaged and repaired. Was thinking that was why it was cheap. Jace, it has to be pre 03, I can't afford newer. I'm going into overdraft as it is.

2000 Y61 3 litre turbo - good idea or not?

Why's that? (I mean why should you not look at it, not why do you live in Yorkshire)

2000 Y61 3 litre turbo - good idea or not?

Sorry to keep on about this, but I'm still trying to decide on what would make a good replacement for my Y60 Patrol. The Navara is out, not a viable tow car. So I'm thinking about a Y61. The 3.0 litre Turbo puts out enough torque to easily tow the caravan. Does anyone have any bouquets or...

    Anyone on here?

Aha. I'm a cyclist as well as a 4x4 driver. Tax. Vehicle Excise Duty goes into general taxation (along with income tax and other forms of tax) roads are paid for out of general taxation. So car drivers are not "paying" for any "right" to be on the road. In fact, if that cyclist earns more...

    Swap a 2.8 engine for a 4.2 in a Y60

Good luck Jace, I hope you get some satisfaction from the Court.

    Top gear

Ooooh, lucky! I'd love to go, I hope you enjoy it. I love Top Gear.

    Swap a 2.8 engine for a 4.2 in a Y60

No, not actually on railway land, but near a railway bridge. I'm going to write back to the police and ask them what their cctv turned up. I shall write out of devilment, I am almost completely sure they won't have pulled the recordings on grounds of expense, and I am also sure I won't get a reply!

    Swap a 2.8 engine for a 4.2 in a Y60

The police don't even bother looking. They have written to me saying they are not going to continue their investigation. I am going to reply and ask them if they have looked at the cctv. I bet you a pound to a penny they have not. They don't do anything apart from logging the registration on...

    Swap a 2.8 engine for a 4.2 in a Y60

Hi Daz, yes I tow regularly in the summer. I have an old LMC 19' twin axle. I do bike (cycle) events. I have towed it with a MkII Granada, a Daihatsu Fourtrak, a Volvo 740 and the Patrol. The Patrol was best. It coped with hills better and, best of all, it swayed not one jot when those idiot...

    Swap a 2.8 engine for a 4.2 in a Y60

Jace, I have been looking at Navaras, need to know what torque they shove out tho - any idea what the 2.4TDI produces please? (year 2000). Thanks, oh, and do you know the kerb weight? What's the red Patrol like? From the photos it looks as if the springs at the back are sagging down. Yeah...

    Swap a 2.8 engine for a 4.2 in a Y60

Good plan, although I went to look at a 96 petrol, it had lived near the sea and the housings underneath were pitted, the towbar was rusty (not the end of the world, I know), there was worse rust under the rear arches, it had a shudder when it pulled off (auto box), a misfire, and other...

    Swap a 2.8 engine for a 4.2 in a Y60

So, my car was stolen and it seems that there aren't many 4.2s around. There are quite a few 2.8s though. Soooo, how difficult would it be to get a 2.8 with nice body/chassis and take out the engine and gearbox, throw them away, and fit a nice 4.2 engine and gearbox instead? I wonder what...

    My car was stolen today

I haven't had a chance to ring the council - will do it today. It's all going through the insurance, the courtesy car is coming today. I'm not expecting to see my car again, it's probably in a container now on the way to Africa.

    My car was stolen today

Can I just point out that it says in the handbook (for the Y60) to move the gearstick swiftly through the neutral position when changing from high to low ratio, and NOT to linger in neutral.

maybe you ran over something that got flicked up and hit the underside of your car?

    My car was stolen today

PS I keep disappearing because my computer at home says it can't find the server for this site. Annoying, I need to speak to IT at work to see if they have any ideas.

    My car was stolen today

Thanks all. Yes, insured - and this year for some reason I decided to insure my no claims too, so at least I won't lose that. Getting to work. I'll have to ride all the way, all of the days. Usually I ride 3 out of 4 and car/train the other 1. Now I'll have to ride all four. I have got a...

    My car was stolen today

Check with who? The police didn't say anything when I reported it stolen, would they know if it had been impounded? What would it have been impounded for? It's taxed insured mot'd. What's NATS by the way?

    My car was stolen today

It was icy this morning, so I put my bike in the car, drove down to Beckenham and parked up. Rode into work, rode back, no car. Parked legally in a nice area in full public view with lots of passers-by, not directly outside someone's house, lots of much nicer cars there. No, it hasn't got an...
