i cant believe they havent found your ol beast, they obviously didnt just want it for a joy ride!

The police don't even bother looking. They have written to me saying they are not going to continue their investigation. I am going to reply and ask them if they have looked at the cctv. I bet you a pound to a penny they have not. They don't do anything apart from logging the registration on the ANPR - a fat f*cking lot of good when any thief is obviously going to put false plates on.

A friend in the auto trade reckons these kinds of cars are being bought up/stolen and shipped abroad - that's why they are getting rarer :(

it was stolen off railway land wasnt it? get onto railtrack and ask them about cctv there should be posters with the persons name phone number etc who overseas the cctv

No, not actually on railway land, but near a railway bridge. I'm going to write back to the police and ask them what their cctv turned up. I shall write out of devilment, I am almost completely sure they won't have pulled the recordings on grounds of expense, and I am also sure I won't get a reply!

persistance my dear , if they dont reply ...... keep asking ( with reference to my letter dated etc ) ...... sooner or later you will get a response :augie

i had garage screwed oct last yr(i found out dec time think it was!),chap with garage next door went to station told them dooor had been atacked (but was semi secure) and he could see stuff inside, they did nothing,i complained had they bothered to find out who owner was my kids quads wouldve been secure, some fella with posh job title wrote back to tell me how sory he as and how warwikshire polices response failed me blah blah,he put me to next chap with posh job tile to consider my compo claim,he refused so now im taking the police to county court, mainly outve develment and the fact if id seen someone breaking into there station and done nothing theyd be trying to do something to me!

probibly not from court,my satisfaction will be in time money wasted on them defending themselves lol if theyd bothered to go look theyd have saved a crime statistic!.
is it town centre cctv that your theft may be on? local council data protection officer will send you a form for acess to it,hurry before tapes deleted/re used

Hello,

Good luck with the cctv thing :) fingers crossed an all that!

Suprisingly there is hardly any difference at all statistically! Specs as follows -

TD42 - 85kw @ 4,000rpm, 264nm @ 3200rpm
RD28t - 85kw @ 4,400rpm, 235nm @ 2,400rpm

So its a bit down on torque which is noticeable from a standing start or on hill's, just means you have to keep the rev's higher.

I pulled a 28' LMC with mine (2.8), only once though when i delivered it to its new owner. Cant say i was too excited by the power, lol, but it did tow nicely just had to drop down on hills. The 2.8's have lower gears/diff as well to compensate for the lower torque. 1st is very low and would get anything moving hence why a lot of the 4.2 off road boy's swap for 2.8 diffs. I also towed a twin axle builders type trailer fairly often and didnt even know it was there!

So only downside is they dont last quite as long as the 4.2's but still good enough unless your towing all day everyday.

You should go and see one and have a go, i think you'd be quite suprised :) A little better on fuel for a day to day as well.

Here's another one -

http://motoring.friday-ad.co.uk/cam...le/nissan-patrol/nissan-patrol-4-2d-SN4990854

Way steep on price but it looks like the photos were from december so maybe have a chat and knock him down? just keep some spare cash for welding by the look of it :) only downside is no mot so you'll have to get it recovered.

Hi,

I am new here and this is my first post.

If the OP was still looking to repower a 2.8 with a 4.2 he could do a lot worse than to buy a vehicle like the one above.

It wouldn't matter if he started with an Auto or manual as everything is there, not a bad way to get an auto to manual conversion and a spare lump as well

I have just bought an 89 GQ in NZ that had been imported from Japan as an Auto, someone had changed it and it drives better than the one I bought it to support as rolling spares

Hi and welcome mate, you picked up an old thread here though, 2011, Karin is no longer with us, intrigued by NZ and Germany do you hop about, Rick
