You don't need to move the pump, you just need a 6 inch extension a bendy extension, and a 17mm socket. Mines a 97 and had a filter, which I holed getting it out and leaving it out.

Clean the muck out of the bottom of the inner wing first, no need to remove anything. Open the passenger door, look at the bottom of the wing, stick your finger or a screwdriver in there and dig all the dirt out.

My Mav's the same as yours and my ECU isn't doing much as the fuel system is separate, although I don't know if the car would run at all without it ? If someone can confirm it will , this could be your cheapest option ??
