this is the 2nd pic

for this weld at collage we was told to leave a gap between the steel to the thickness of your filler/welding wire

im guessing the other welds on the one you have shown a picture of is lumpy on the back.. this is too much penatration.

i really dont like rusty stuff but if its a struggle maybe it need cutting back until you hit some thicker stuff
