Wanting a manual over auto then wanting cruise control seems Irish to me..
About 15 years ago I bid at auction and imported a surf from Japan it took a while because I only wanted manual being of the mindset not to trust auto's thinking I want to be in total control. Well now I think what a plonker , autos so much easier all round and I won't buy a manual by choice. But an Auto Trol can only legally tow 2.5 tonne where as a manual can tow 3.5 tonne, why I don't know. Good luck in what ever you buy but you won't get the mpg you want, but awesomeness costs.

Not really, one of our manual trucks at work has cruise and once on the motorway it's nice to flick the switch, i find it helps me concentrate on the TV once in cruise....joke!!

Oh and why would the Irish be more interested in it than anyone else

Love driving manuals but if you intend to do lots of motorway miles cruise control would be a nice addition.

might be worth looking at aftermarket kits to get parking sensors or cruise control.

Lol With the Auto you can watch the TV as soon as you leave home.

Hi and welcome,

You definatly will not get the economy your after from a patrol of any era.. The x-trail will not be an upgrade but more of a sideways shift from your current truck.
From an overlanding point of view and spares availability the patrol is very popular overseas unlike here in the UK so be assured you will get spares. The terrano's is also awesome with the only down side being the independent front suspension set up and no diff lock, still up to overseas trips though easily.
Not all patrols had diff lock however most UK models seem to have them.
I am not getting into the ZD30 engine debate, I have a tun-it box and stainless exhaust on mine and just drive it and do the necessary servicing, it's great, I could read negativity about the early ZD30 engines all day long but don't see the point if it goes bang I will build another engine.

The landcruiser is lovely, the 4.2 diesel is great but check the big ends have been done, and check for rust everywhere other than that great...very very overpriced, if it's cheap it's not a bargain it's trouble and strife..

For a late model patrol you will not see much change from £10k but worth every penny in my opinion don't forget to budget for those overland accessories it's not as cheap as kitting out a landy in this country..

My choice would be a 04 05 face lift with diff lock. Or import a 4.2 td y61 patrol as that is a completely different and beautiful truck to drive. Of course don't rule out the t2 but they are in different price brackets to the trol.

Doing all the work all the time of changing gear then to sit back with cruise control... When with an automatic your sitting back from the start.
