I suppose one way to look at it is that you got a good gear box for whatever it cost, the fact that they cocked up the fitting of it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:nenau:nenau:nenau: nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau
ive tried mate but cant delete it , would be interested in the outcome of pauls call tho
Simple solution, as the club now has 1999 members that adds up to a lot of bad reviews.
What is the name of the garage and what site did you recommend them on, we can soon destroy any reputation they may have good or bad.:thumbs
Thanks for the offer but I have more tools than I can ever use, my father worked in the trade so left me well stocked, it is a Myson super 7, a lot smaller than one I had a few years ago, ( I could do brake disks on that as it had the first 6 inches of bed removable) but did not use it enough to keep it, but you do not want to know any more about me, your eyes will water, Rick
No probs Rick, just thought i'd offer as a way of repaying the kindness you've shown to Pete.:bow

The oil smell would have been from the spigot wearing heavily on the spigot support on the flywheel as the plate broke up, (it got red hot if you look at the pics) this spigot and support are only designed to align the fluid flywheel during assembly after the bolts are in and tightened they are redundant, but when the plate started to break up these two parts started to move against each other, not good, heat, residues of oil/grease =smell, what Mag & I do well, long story but lets just say we fostered special needs kids for 24 years, packed it up as the system stinks and we were not deemed suitable as we "at that time" were not "black" we were fostering a black 2 year old, got to stop there, sorry gets too heavy

Go along with that 1000 & 1 %
I have to say, I was a bit iffy about the garage, so was my mate, but just a bit. it didnt make sense to me what he was showing me, and like for you, he was revving it a lot, he said "to get it warmed up", i dunno tbh, havent dealt with them nearly enough BUT the fact that this auto box was botched into Petes truck is extremely worrying, I certainly wont use them (not that I planned to).
for those wanting to see pics of sally .

Yes it is for the auto box, it's what the garage put in that done the box (botch) job.

any news on pauls phone call today ?
Sorry for the late update on the phone call :o
I phoned the garage yesterday lunch time, Clive answered and when I told him who I was I got the distinct impression that he knew what was coming.
When I explained the reason for my call he handed the phone to Shane, he is the guy that fitted the gearbox.
The impression I got was that they have been following this thread because Shane's explanation of how he fitted the box was an almost verbatim quote of how Rick (quite rightly) said it should be done.
Unfortunately we can not prove that what appears to be their shoddy workmanship caused this failure.
What I will say is when Rick called here with Pete's truck last week, despite the garages diagnosis, it was blatantly obvious that it was not the engine that was causing the noise.

OK it is all finished, road tested all OK, even got air con, it was empty, so charged it up works a treat but will probably leak over time, could not find leak but very often inside heater unit, anyway apart from 2 wheel studs (coming Tuesday) Briggie is back on the road, I am well happy with the result, hope everyone else is, I am now going quiet, done my bit, nothing much to say now, Rick
Rick, from the few moments I spent with you last week it was clear that you are one of a dying breed, a true mechanic/engineer..... unlike these young 'parts replacers' that seem to occupy most garages/workshops these days.
A huge thank you to your good self and Swifty for all your time and effort that has gone into this.
I will give you a bell tomorrow :thumb2

Phew! I've just spent the last 30 min catching up!
What a great result.
Rick & Swifty, Well done you both really have gone above & beyond the call of duty, I take me hat orf to you! http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll326/piscisvisio/web/hi.gif
totally awesome Rick, you are a true gent! its heart warming to know theres folk like you around, you've been an absolute saviour, hats off to you, your family and Mr Swifty. I'm in AWE at this whole scenario, this kind of thing just doesnt happen!
I just love this club, I never expected this sort of thing when I joined up. Dont misinterpret this, but I never expected such decent people, not at this level, thats all of you I mean. I've followed this whole Pete scenario from day one and its shown 100% that there are still a ton of really REALLY decent people about. Y'all deserve a medal.
petes going to be so chuffed.
Haven't been on the site too much recently but just updated myself on the repairs on briggies truck. Must agree, it's great to see there is still a few cratfsmen out there, some real mechanics and not just parts fitters. Great also to hear of the detailed going over the truck has got. The truck might have been a lemon but I think the issue of whether there can be any confidence or trust in the truck will be knocked on the head. Well done :clap:clap:clap:clap
