Y61 suspension lift

sorry for fill up your site but id like to know some answers

due to grounding out today, im after a suspension lift but on a really tight budget, seeing as its xmas and stuff

is it possable just to fit springs which give me an extra 2" lift?

or would i need shocks, brake lines, new bushes ect?

bat21 has just bought bigger springs etc for his 4.2 troll hes got two the things and had them all over the place!

We have a 2inch lift on our Patrol which is fitted with Old Man Emu springs and shocks. No modifications were require to the brake lines. I'm no mechanic but I think the percieved wisdom is that you should change springs and shocks together ie you need to ensure that they are compatible in terms of rates of compression etc. In short if you are changing the springs you should probably change the shocks.

Normally if you lift your vehicle by say 2" you should also lengthen the fleible brake lines by approx twice the length 4". Better safe than sorry, if your axle can articulate beyond the travel of your brake pipes then well........................

Shockers need to have enough travel for axle to articulate and move up and down or will simply snap.

I would reccomend using stainless steel felxible brake pipes for added security and strength. Not cheap, but you can drive home on a broken shocker, may not have the oportunity on a borken brake pipe 8O

Don't listen to the cheap tack people who say you don't need to do this and don't need to do that, if any doubt ring a few advertisers that specialise like Milners, although they are trying to sell stuff they will not give bad advice.

Normally if you lift your vehicle by say 2" you should also lengthen the fleible brake lines by approx twice the length 4".

It all depends where they are routed, on the T2/Mav, Nissan handily ran them along the link bars so they are not stretched any more with a lift than they are without one, have a look and see where the lines run, if they cross thin air from the chassis to the axle they will need lengthening if they run along suspension members they won't.

Thats why I said he should check with milners or someone who advertises these lift kits as they deal with them a lot, but theres nothing better than a mark 1 eyeball :wink:

Don't foget to check both axles, as they will be differant.

2 inch will be fine mate, anymore than 3 you can put the original rears
onto the front abd get new longer rear ones.

at even 2 inch tho you will need to make a bracket to extend your
brake sensing spring up away from the diff. really easy to do.

some say you dont need castor correction so i didnt bother, but i will
be getting it done i thinks

is that why i need?

i thought mine was a GU ?

not really any difference in coils or shocks. all will fit
if you wanted a bigger lift you could even fit a 2 inch kit
for an 80 series landcruiser. this would lift a patrol by 4 inch

Ironman 2" lift kit, Tough Dog castor bush correction kit, Extended brake lines,

there the heavy weight springs tho, as iv got bits too add, so no point in getting them the correct weight for how it is now :roll:


on an angry note, it took me two days due to every bolt has siezed, even the wheels were siezed on, i had to undo the bolts and jolt them, then still hit them with a seldge :lol:

Ironman lift

You'll be able to put some big tyres on now ? Arv got 285/85 BFG MT's on mine with 2inch OME lift. Didnt need brake ext leads either.

bet theyve altered gearing! i had 80 profiles on an old patrol an when put 70s on it wasnt as long geared!

No I didnt alter the gearing. Frogs island did the susension and eddie priscot (manager) recommended the size of tyre in 2004. Ive still got the same tyres on (285/85 mt BFG's) and done about 60,000 mls with them (bit low on tread now tho). The only addition with the suspension lift was the castor correction kit. :smile:

no the high profile tyres will have altered the gearing not theyve actualy took out an changed the cogs kindve thing
