got all cowling on, theres a chip missing but taped that area up.

rad sounds easier to get out tha thought so try that soon.

would the gasket trick show regardless of load?

following other thread about mav getting too hot in tunnel area,
plank mentioned cluthc slip, any thoughts ig increased load and
decreased performance could give this effect, or would rad and
cooling system still be able to cope with this.

Don't think clutch slip is the issue here, if it was slipping you would know about it. Engine reving and car not pulling.

If you suspect head gasket or crack in head/block, take it to a workshop that has a radiator pressure tester.

How they check it is by connecting tester run, engine from cold to nornal operating temp. If there is a leak the pressure will rise quickly. Then you operate throttle repeatedly if there is a leak the pressure with continue to rise. If there is no leak the pressure will fluctuate but it will go back to the original reading.
You can also get dye that you put in coolant that changes colour when it comes into contact with combustion gases.

As said before, you can take main rad cap off when engine is cold run engine to normal temp and look for bubbles, get someone to blip the throttle and see if bubbles increase.

Let me know how you get on as I'm getting ready to go to work so I'll not be near a comp for a couple of days.

As I said do the easy things first.

spoke to nissan engineer prev about gasket, thought not
but said that theres a test known as sniff test, but on
diesels its done by an analyis of sample of coolant.

not as easy as on petrols, where usually gunk appears
in rad cap area.

going to get rad out and test as suspect that when garage
flushed it just drained in situ and refilled cant see £25 i
paid covering taking out and inverting.

Did you get to the bottom of the overheating?????

:nenau

not fully but hopefully will on thursday when hve it tested for HGF

best mates mechanic mate had look other day, listened to symptons
said will do tests on cylinders via injector holes.

think said compressed air test whilst engine off, has gauge determine
how much/how quick air leaks away.

says some mild HGF dont have oil n water (cross) contamination.

SO anyone like to quote on replacing HG on a zd3.0 troll just to
determine if this guy's quote is realistic?

anything else worth doing whilst head off.

im sure rick and swifty would give you a very good quote

When the heads off get it checked for cracks, as I've read it can happen on 3.0 TDI engines even if the gasket is ok.:nenau

I've got a couple of issues with my Patrol at the moment, not an overheating issue but a vibration issue when towing caravan:eek:

Just came back from South of France and me thinks Dual Mass Flywheel is on the way out or I've got a problem with rear prop UJ's

If its the DMF its going to hurt:doh New DMF and Clutch £920 supplied then I've got the fitting, which is a big job, not a do it in the street removal as the gearbox & transfer box weight is too heavy for me to drop out.

Have looked to try and find a solid flywheel kit but I can't find one in the UK:nenau

Did you get the rad checked for chokes?

:)

not had rad off, not had time and since ok when solo cant be arsed.

see if his tests come up with anything, if not then go back to rad.
