Could anyone tell me if there is any such thing as an upgrade for the front brakes, such as two pot caliper, instead of the single pot as fitted from new.Thank You.

Howdy and welcome! I'm a terrano owner but plenty of patrol loonies on here. And some mad mods too :naughty

Got any pics of your motor? :thumbs

I just changed front and rear pads on my 1997 Y60 42 PeTroll.
Mine has twin pot calipers on the front and single pot on the rears.
Vented discs front and rear:thumb2

What your got:nenau

Twin pot on the petrol I guess :nenau Single on my old oil burner.
I've got twin pot calipers off a Y61 but then I got the axles too :sly Patrolman can you measure the distance between the bolts on the caliper ? it could be a different size to the Y61 version.
For the ultimate upgrade however you need to go Hydro brakes :naughty That is you use the power steering pump instead of vacuum to boost the brake master cylinder. About 2.5 to 3 times the power :D You need to change all the flexi hoses to braided type too

Given the now huge turning force now generated by the 37"'s I think brakes are next on the list.
I still don't feel I have as much braking force as I should have:nenau
When I push the pedal hard sometimes it feels as something is hitting a stop whether it is the pedal bottoming out or the travel of the piston inside the brake master cylinder I'm not too sure.
It does improve with a few uses, could be the piston in the master cylinder is not returning fully,:nenau

Thinking while I'm typing it could be a bulging flexie allowing the master cylinder piston too much travel:rolleyes:

Any previous experience with this.....

Aus trols all run braided flex lines. That'll get you a lot more response straight away.
After that there's the Y61 master cylinder and servo .
Then upgrade to Y61 calipers and discs .
Be reet then :D

Petrol twin pots difficult to get, they were only on certain years, i sold a set just before i left nz and got a real high price for them as they are really sought after. i had another set fitted to my truck which run 35" simexes, in all honesty they didnt make a massive differnce until i put drilled and grooved discs on.. You could try that option but standard sized drilled and grooved discs? With high quality pads not cheapies as it makes a difference, also braided hoses as makeitfit has already said make a hugh difference to brakes but also can make brakes feel a little wooden through the pedal..

A mate did a conversion using skyline brake components but from what model i cant remember.. That did work well...

Best brake upgrade I did was on my project Capri V8 it had cosworth discs front and rear with a combo of Granada and Mondeo calipers minted 171's and braided hoses:thumb2
Unfortunately it never saw the road before I sold it:(
Had to go to 17" rims as the discs were almost as big as the std 13" wheels.:thumb2

Nice looking brakes Patrolman !

Like the look of those calipers, are the pad slider pins screw in or is the screw head to aid removal by giving a turn ability ?

Something like this...

Tried to find some pics of the skyline calipers he fitted but cant find them, i am sure the caliper was mounted in the same place as origionals unlike the one in the picture but on a lazer cut adapter/spacer plate becouse of the diameter of the disc but i am sure they still went behind a 15" rim and the oem patrol master cyl and servo was used... Wish i could find the pics now.

Calipers are Nissan 300Zx units:thumb2
Just searching for a pair to measure up, then see what size discs will fit in the 17" rims:augie

Well that makes things easier with the 17's ay:clap a few more options available.. Keen to see what you come up with on this..

So far.....
300zx front discs are only 276mm
Troll fronts are 305mm rears 316mm
Land cruiser fronts only 312mm

I font think the diameter should be much of a problem for the std discs but if I could find some slightly bigger discs it may be worth the extra effort.

Will keep looking:thumb2

I'm still not convinced my master cylinder is functioning properly as the travel still runs out and hits a stop:nenau

Is the Y61 servo and master cylinder a nut n bolt upgrade:nenau
