I recently bought an Xtrail 2.0 DCI 2008 which was only supplied with one key. On finding out that a new one costs about £150 I bought one off Ebay and had a new key blade cut and fitted and it operates the doors fine, however when I tried to get the key fob reprogrammed for the central locking, imobiliser and alarm I was told by a so called autoelectrical expert that once these keys have been programmed as new then it is not possible to reprogramme them, he says thats what the main dealer has told him. If this is correct then I have spent £25 for nothing and now still look like paying another £150 to the main Nissan dealer to get another key.
Has anyone had a similar problem and found a way round it because you have to wonder how it is possible to be charged so much for such a small mass produced product.
Comments would be really appreciated as I could spend £150 on better things.

Best regards

Hi Dino

Thanks for the info.

Do you know if this works on the latest model xtrail. I have to say that the key fob I bought off ebay was obviuosly a used one and this seems to be the issue, dealers are telling me that you cant reprogramme them. if this is the case then the guy selling them on ebay is cheating all who buy.

There are differnt fobs by the look of it and it depends on your car, try a mobile auto lock smith as they usally got the gear to code them.

My key has stopped working on my X-Trail for the remote locking/alarm ... thought it might have been the battery but i've replaced that too no avail ... could mine need this done too re enter it or could it be something else wrong with it? :augie

the little switches fall apart. could be that, did mine for the T2 a while back, bits from Ebay.

xtrail key reprogramming

Just to let you know Nissan couldnt reprogramme the key I bought off ebay and I ended up spending £140 + on a new one. So ebay buyers beware.

when i perchesed my x trail the keys was stolen from the dealer, thay ordered 2x keys from nissan, both had to be programed in car by nissan these then are unique to your car, the electronics will accsept no other key, cost to dealer £250 per key.
