been looking at the xtrails, can anyone give me some information on these trucks, reliability, big ends, and what to look for, im going to up grade the t2 and the wife likes the look of the xtrail, so be it, we will look, i noticed they do a 2.2dci engine, i will be towing a caravan weighing 1300 kg loaded, possibly with 4 passengers, so will it cope??, look forward to your thoughts. :thumb2

im looking at poss 2005/2006 model.

I looked at the XTrail a while back, but was put of by the electronic 4x4 system, and no low-box.

Overall though I did like the layout and 'toys' you get... like a fridge to keep your cans cool, and a boot you can wash out :thumbs

I wouldnt class them as a 'real' off roader though and the T2 suits me better for what I need.

As far as towing is concerned try this website... put in your car/caravan and it will tell you how well they should perform together, I'd have thought though at 1300kgs it would have no probs - http://www.whattowcar.com/

both people i know with the XTrails, both have had

new water pump, fuel pump, intercooler and turbos. some more than once.

there seems to be some issues regarding some later nissans, i will have to look into this more i think, :doh

I owned an Xtrail for about 18months 2004/5. This was a 112 bhp D.I. rather than the 136 Dci. Managed about 35k miles, lots of them towing 1600kgs with no faults/problems. Daughter has had a DI from new which now has 140k miles with no major probs at all ,and still running very sweetly. The issues you mention appear to be common to the uprated 136 dci.A Nissan mechanic I know reckons the older version is by far the more reliable model. Same engine but Nissan did not seem to get the uprated one quite right.I am told that they have quietly introduced an extended policy warranty on the turbo up to 90k miles.
Not a bad towcar the only issue I had was the slightly sagging rear suspension when fully loaded and the van on the back. But then we usually take everthing but the proverbial kitchen sink.Would definitely have another one but would uprate the rear suspension one way or another.

sheila had a company x trail ..... a 2.2 dci turbo sport .....it had to have lots of shockers and suspension work done , also the heater /blower /air con , caused loads of problems...... but she still liked it .... very fast car and normally reliable , very very good on fuel economy too .. did 47 mpg on a run !!!
