Right I had a brief stint with WVO last year and was probably using it completely wrong and not filtering it down enough and certainly didn't realise that I should have been boiling the water out of it :doh:doh, I was literally just filtering it through a bedsheet and whacking it straight in the tank

I've now invested in a couple of 2000w Immersion Heaters from Hong Kong on the bay and also ordered a 1 Micron Filter bag from eBay, I managed to source a few blue drums from a unit not far from where I work for free and have made the platforms from bricks from a factory that has been knocked down locally and fetched a water butt tap from B&Q last night and fitted it which cost me £3.98 :D

You'll also see in the pictures below that I stole a refrigerator thermostat from a fridge that had gone kaput at my old place of work and I then wired that up to a mains plug and extended the temperature sensor

All in the setup has probably cost me £15, the sock is re-usable, and the immersion heaters only need to be on for a few hours which with a bit of maths from makeitfit should cost no more than 70p an hour for the two

Then all I have to worry about is getting a steady supply of WVO from local restaurants that hasn't been contaminated with sh*t like I've seen in some places, I manage to pick up about 30 litres every two weeks from the work canteen however I'm always on the lookout for other places but seems everyone already has the restaurants by me cornered or I get the line "we're contracted in for re-cycling :(:(

Comments and any ideas you have are welcome if you feel my setup can be improved :thumb2

have you told the environmental agency what you are doing? if its for personnel use they dont charge you and will supply you with tickets to give to people when you take their waste oil away so they can prove its been disposed of properly

Ah nice one matey :), didn't know about that but will certainly check that out now :D, and yup I've sent my 25 Micron sock back and am swapping it for a 1 Micron sock instead :D

best to get 3 socks, 10 micron down to 5 micron then down to 1 micron, you can filter the 10 and 5 without heating the veg oil then on the last 1 micron heat it up to get rid of the water

i put my wast oil thats been settled for 6 months or more through a pillow case inside a 25 bag then through a fluffy pillow case inside a 1 miron bag and its clean and clear, passes a hot pan test ok,and its ready to use.when i get water in oil i put qubee in freezer and then as its thawing out i get the oil of the top.
never heat it up.
been doing that for 50.000mls on different cars for many many years.
the fats i cant use i store and mix with saw dusst/shredded paper/wood chippings etc to mack logs for my wood burner.free heat.no wast,

ive got approx 20ltrs of used veg oil you can have for nought banshee, its only had veggie food in it. i was gonna do a set up but i aint got space, you are welcome to collect it dude.
