Wrong engine oil, will I die.

Hi, I am back again to pick your brains if I may.
I hope everyone is safe and well.
My terrano does not get used much now once a week normally but now due to the lockdown it will be even less.
My elderly mum has gone to stay with her even more elderly sister for the 12 week duration of the shielding and Has asked me to keep an eye on her house.

On the way over there my oil light came on so once the engine had cooled some I checked the oil and it was at the min mark on the dipstick. I have always used castrol Magnatec 10/40 in this car but stupidly recently threw a litre or so i had in the bottom of a can away at the tip as it was rattling around in the boot. So today after realising what a twit I was and being firmly in the red financially I topped it up (a litre, maybe more) with castrol edge 5/40 fully synthetic as I use this in my van and had some left over from its last service.

I am kind of regretting it now but I did what I did due to lack of funds and wanting to self isolate.Will this be a problem?

If it were my truck I would not worry too much, however I would change the oil when I could afford it

There are only 2 rules when it comes to oil.
Any oil is better than none
Never mix fully synthetic with mineral.

Everything else is ....well you get the idea but let's say relative
There is no need to change your oil other than your engine will always thank you for doing so.

I agree with the above comments.

Confident that the mix of the two oil types will not cause any problems. I have topped up fully synthetic with mineral oil in the past without issue, & visa versa. Not recommended but as has been said any oil is better than no oil.

Not sure why the oil light came on though unless it was hard cornering at the time.
Might be the sender is on its way out?

I live on a slight hill and park facing upwards. When I started the car up the light came on and stayed on for the duration of the journey. How low should the oil get before the light comes on?
I would have thought the Min mark would be the perfect time to come on.

When I had turbo problems, I was sticking 3 litres in before it got to the bottom of the dipstick, and still the oil light had not come on.

It's not an exact science but most vehicles will not have the oil light come on unless substantially below the minimum oil level.

The oil light is a low pressure switch it should not illuminate until the level so low that the pick up pipe starts pulling in air causing the pressure to drop. On many vehicles that situation does not occur until there is little or no oil level shown on the dipstick.

If there is no associated engine rattle when the low oil pressure light is illuminated I would be thinking the switch is faulting. Quite common on any vehicle over 10 years old for a switch to start faulting.
