It depends on the reasons behind the purchase.
If its on your Bucket List then why not !
You only live once and one day the oil will run out or fuel will become more expensive so why not.
As Jeremy Clarkson and others have said you should buy the car of your dreams when you can afford it and sell it after 9 months by which time its just your normal motor and the desire to own has diminished.
If you have always fancied a Big Jaguar and it was an indulgence then yes I would buy one provided I had a couple of grand in the bank to put it right now and in the future.
If it was all my worldly goods going into the £900 cash then no I would not.

Owning a Jaguar

I understand where you are coming from they have a reputation with us older folk of being a well engineered car and they were and are again I think.

I drove a lot of Jaguar Mk 10's, 420G's and XJ models in the late sixties and early seventies when I was in the car trade and at that time they were a very quiet motor with good performance but with rotten brakes and poor finish. I was no fan of the E Type when it came to driving them but thought they looked brilliant.

My soft spot was for the last of the XJS V12 5.3 Coupes I drove one and it reached a 140 mph in the blink of an eye and was so stable and quiet I could hardly believe the speedometer reading until I started to brake and get it back down to 70 mph. They have not aged as well as the E Type I thought they were a beter car all round.

I see Jaguar is building a handfull (18) of new Alloy bodied E Type lightweights again.
They are being hand built and prices are said to be a round £1 million each !!
