hi guys, im finally getting to the last string of jobs since i bought the motor, one job is the clutch on tickover there is a rattle which dissapears once the clutch pedal is pressed to me would guess the thrust bearings on its way out, also when clutch is fully depressed selecting first im finding little notchy also ive noticed this week the sump has had a thump sometime in its life leaving an oil leak which at the moment has some hard setting paste applied its lot better but still leaves oil stains on the drive which her indoors has noticed too:doh.. i know these are to big jobs was wondering if it wud be better both done together as you have to lift the lump to get to the sump would it make it easier to separate the bell housing same time or am guessing the bell housing needs separating in order to do the sump .... am unsure at moment comments welcome ......gaz:thumbs

STOP FUSSIN' I think you'll be surprised how big a job it is to do the clutch . Similarly awkward job to change the sump.
I suggest you clean up the dodgey repair and clean it up properly, THEN redo the repair with metal putty stuff. It does work well as long as the work area is clean. There should be hardly any sump pressure so no worries there :thumbs
Thrust bearing will last for ages and I fixed mine with a better stereo :D

yeah suppose it wud save hrs of labour time with the sump not to mention the cost :doh the clutch at moments fine but i guess 3 or 4 mths but i dont race it or hold on the clutch so maybe even longer eh :lol... also the cd player has a lovely basey sound & yes instant repair :thumbs

I doubt it is the clutch release bearing, as that would be noisy when you press it, unless the clutch bolts are loose.

It could be the input bearing to the gearbox, there is a thread on this already.

clutch bearing

if the bearing goes quiet when you depress the pedal its the clutch bearing mine did the same, when rick did my clutch it was well nackerd due to water ingrese into the bell housing rusting it completly

Gaining traction

Yeah once the clutch is pressed the rattle instantly stops . Also ive noticed at times pedal sticking when driving it suddenly shoots to top so maybe something is seizing up . Good overhaul once the clutch is out should do the trick

Sounds like Ur pedal problem is the pedal itself either the return spring is broken or the white bushes for the pedal need replacing hope that helps worked for me and had same problem as u did.
