ok before this thread gets silly....

the main points have already been done.
so really the only way forward is, either take the advise from toolbox or timbo. both have experience in this field or run it to nissan and let them fix it.

at the end of the day its your truck your money the club really only offers the club as a meeting point and a place to throw ideas around. be it mechanics , mods, off road stuff or caravans , yes there are downloads and helpful bits . but at the end of the day its , (as paulllllyyyyyy insists) a payto view forum . it is what it is you can take it or leave it .

i remember asking questions and ruffling lots of feathers here , some i guess are still ruffled .
so i can see both sides of the coin. and you all know me ill question anything

i suppose it makes you sit back and realise just how valuable to the club toolbox and timbo and several others are .

In this age of vehicle manufacturers making vehicles that require specialist equipment to work on their vehicles, resulting in more and more "COMPULSORY" visits to the main dealers , isn't it good that we can all share our experiences with each other ? The download section shows us how to do many things, and will probably be added to in the future.
Home mechanics means exactly that ... as GUNCHARMER stated about taking the exhaust section off the omega , although he bought a blowtorch to help him in the job, he still had to rely on the power chisel of the garage, which had it off in a minute..... in other words, a specialist tool.
Now we do have an R.A.C. patrolman as a member ... Do we also have a Nissan trained mechanic here ?
What we must remember is that as enthusiastic D.I.Y. repairers, we do not have the specialist equipment of a main dealer or computerised diagnostics
to tell us what's wrong ..... just the enthusiasm , warmth & friendship of fellow members prepared to "lend a hand" to anyone in trouble.:thumb2

Big respect to you guys :clap,as a new member to this site i have learned alot from reading the threads that you guys have started, especially the on on cleaning the mini filter. My terrano would not rev above 2k, and having read Diesel Bob's comments on the pump, i immediatly thought i had bought a lemon, but as i said reading the threads and cleaning the mini filter my truck now revs freely and does not sound like an asthmatic pit pony. I have now got to admit that my £10 spent on membership was well worth it, i am now a happier Terrano owner, just to sort the oil leak now.........

Engine and running gear what do you think

ITS QUITE FUNNY READING THIS TOPIC.
JUST IN CASE SOME OF YOU DONT KNOW THE HISTORY OF THIS CLUB .
It was started by Shark1e and Mav .
They had both bought trucks and found to there dismay there wasnt any help to be had ,no Haynes bible:eek:
so keep passing the knowledge and guesses .:thumbs

I joined via a recommendation from Jonathon on another forum. It has certainly saved me alot of money with all the guessers. And if the guessing is wrong, i can always go to a dealer and remortgage the house.

Just to add another little kernal intot he mix, I went to a dealer with an ABS light going on and off intermittently - They wanted to sell me new sensor for a couple of hundred. I went on here and found that it is usually just a broken wire that is easily fixed - saved me a fortune and no dealer would do that - just replace the whole assembly.

This problem again

hi all, have a small problem with me truck, when reving in neutral at about 2000 rpm you get a small misfire and puff of blue smoke, and if you keep revs up at 2000 and rev from there it does the same, on tick over no misfire dont even notice a misfire when driving, but do notice at night in headlights behind when accelerating crap out the exhaust, done a code flash test came up with code 55 no fault found, got new k&n filter cleaned maf sensor but still no different, drives no different no lack of power so im at a bit of a loss, so as the title says wot do you think ? thanks in advance eboy. sorry its a bit long winded::eek:

Hi all,

This is a fault I have been trying to resolve on my 2000 Terrano 2.7TDI for a long time.
The symptoms are exactly as eboy has described with the aditional misfire only at 2000revs. I have changed the MAF, no fault codes other than 55, checked induction circuit, intercooler, turbo pipes, fuel banjo, fuel pipes, throttle position sensor is O.K. I had given up for a while but now I am going to have another go. If you have any more ideas on this problem please let us know, :thumb2

I took the OP's problem to be when the motor is revved briskly which produces the misfire and the smoke in his vehicle, and ours. It will be more pronounced when the engine is cold, as you need more timing (fuel takes longer to burn).

I have considerable knowledge of the stock nissan ECU & mapping, and the symptom is a result of the stock programming, which cannot cope with a no load condition- it is caused by woefully retarded timing particularly around 2000rpm, which is where peak torque is produced- again a factor of the timing the stock map uses.

I'm using an aftermarket ecu now-custom mapped- and have no misfiring or blue smoke at all.

PS, I would not go messing with the actuator rod unless you know what you are doing, and have an accurate boost gauge installed.

From reading the whole post this custom mapping ecu seems the only real cure + these usually give you A power & fuel consumption benifit too :thumb2

i found out about this top site from PLANK (top man) after i started breaking terranos. this site is priceless with regards to owning 3 and breaking loads!!

with regards the problem - i cant help!! all i can say is approx 50% of these (tdi) i have in seem to have this problem, a tdi i had myself also did it but never became an issue and you could only tell when reved on the spot.

This fault was really bugging me on the way home tonight, 55MPH and now and again a stutter.!!!

If this is a common problem there must be a fault to rectify, it didn't do it when I bought it and my mate has an older very high milage Terrano 2.7TD which doesn't do it and now-a-days it isn't just a blip at 2000rpm, the engine jumps about!!:(

There is a fault here which has developed and I am determined to find it
