jump start

don't know if this will help, but when you tow to start you still have full battery voltage at the glow plugs (+12 and a bit volts) but when you use the starter motor will drop the voltage considerably (cold cranking voltage) this can be as low as 50% of battery volts !!

Sounds like a lazy starter, IE very lazy Take it off try it on a battery see how she spins, If its very slow Throw it over next door, Get a new one :clap

i must make a note, dont jump start anyones car, call AA instead, :lol:lol

disaster rac wrecked car

hi all, i thought id just call the rac out today as free with insurance and have never ever used them ,a local garage man turned up today in some old clapped out semi lorry type thing (not rac)?so they must off passed me on? he played around with it for about an hour no joy he then decided to try and jump it off his lorry which i know are 24 volt systems !!!i asked if it would be ok which he then said yes,he trys to jump car smoke starts coming off the leads and now nothing!!!!!! no lights on dash ,no clicking nothing at all so i dont know whats happeneing now think hes killed my mint terrano bus!!!!!

I dont know what the ECU/ABS/dash electronics are capable of withstanding as a maximum voltage but I would think 24V is nearing the limit. If the truck was running the voltage would be over 28V.
If your lucky it may have only fried your battery. Try connecting some jump leads to a 12V donor vehicle and see if things look as though they may work. Also there are fuses in the engine bay that could have given up!

Anyhow; I'd be calling the RAC asking why one of their appointed agents has stuffed 24v up your 12v electrical system and ask what they propose to do to rectify it!

Absolutely, get on the case quick sharp:sly
It'll all be logged anyway, but you should have a copy of the paperwork you signed for the numpty:augie
Good luck:thumbs

T2's have Fuseable links under the bonnet so you may be lucky and it's just those that have popped. For what it's worth mine turned out to be the starter.
Like people have said get on to the RAC and don't stand for it, remember you asked if it would be OK and he assured you it would be. Take it all the way don't lay down and roll over.

Good Luck

starter motor repair

Before you throw it next door remove the end cap and check the bronze bearing that the com end of the armature runs in, Any play in this bearing will let the armature rub on the field coil's, and the motor will run slow, I replaced this bearing over 18 months ago and it's still starting OK.
