all sorted now i took it to dtm in bristol they had a look and found that the pressure relief valve in the pump was faulty. drives like a new truck now thanks for all the help guys.

Sounds to me like you have fly by wire pump, if so I would say pump is stuffed, white smoke is too far retarded, can only be controlled by pump, worth taking it into Nissan and for £65 they will put it on diagnostic computer if you have the repair done by them they will knock of the £65 that is my local anyway, but if the pump is stuffed it will be expensive, Rick
