hi guys

Mistral playing up again
all wiring at rear end is rotten and giving me major headaches it is rotten where it comes near lights and tow ball connections etc
does this go into the car itself if so does it run full length or can i replace part of it from inside vehicle

any help or info please

i changed my towing electrics, due to damage and corrosion (rust)

i moved the socket to the rear step this gave me 400mm of spare cable so i trimmed it and its great now.... and its out of the way for rain, possible damage from parking and off roading new socket is around a tenner

the advantage is you can easily take the tow bar off when not needed or off roading in 10 mins

plus you can still plug a lead light in if you break down in the dark

terranosorus did something similar but fitted it to rear wing.:thumb2

If I recall, the rear wiring enters the near side quarter from below. Access to the wiring loom is easy when you remove the plastic nearside 1/4 panel trim from the inside of the vehicle.
This is where I tapped into the loom when I fitted my towbar nearly 14 years ago and I have had no problems with the wiring since.
Hope this helps.
Best regards, Rustic

it what were ill find the reverce light power too, id like a better one....

Wiring loom is def behind the trim at the nsr. Is your wiring to the rear lights bust as well? not heard that one but if it is and you have to replace wires make all your joints inside at the nearside.

Zippy the revs light wire is also behind the trim on the nsr.

thats goods as teh rev lights rubish!!

Are you thinking a pair of Cibie's on the roof bars Zipps:thumbs

You'll probably need to run a live feed to the rear and use the existing reversing light circuit to switch a relay as the standard wiring won't be rated to carry much more than the standard (and near legal maximum) 21W

ah, yes, i hadn't thought of that bit. good idea..

maybe use the live feed for the tow electrics.. ??

If you had em switched you could have some real fun the next time someone annoys you:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

remember if you have a switched work(reverse) light it legally needs a tell tale
on the dash.

tut tut jt wha a good idea. another would be to wire additional brake/fogs
so that flash alterntively, your tall gater will brick himself thinking up bum of
a plod. hehe

were the wiring comes out of the body behind the n/s/r light and at this point there is a wiring plug you should be able to replace just the rear loom from this point.

no much like hard work for me....

cheers guys its the wiring on the car side where it comes out of the car to the rear lights
i can replace the small loms to the rear lights but the plugs at the car side of this are all corroded
i may however be able to get into the loom by removing the pnel and try to replace some of these wires
easier if i had another piece of same loom i could solder in

Could you get anything from a breakers yard perhaps. Personally I think if you take your time you'll be fine making a home made loom from inside the car.
