need help, i'm building a safari style roof rack for my t2 and it's got it's own 12v marker lights on it and soon spot lights:D:naughty now, iv'e got wires from the battery to a fuse box to a switch and then to the roof up the RH-side piller behind the trim pannel, question is, how do i get my wires through the roof so i can power the roof rack?? drill a hole and put a rubber gromit in or somthing? its a quick release connector so roof rack can be easily disconected:D

Put a compression gland above the interior light?
either 16 or 20mm:

The gland will be ok for the cable through the roof but not if you want to undo the rack and "unplug" the wire.
I've got a military style plug and socket on mine.

I think I've planned a plan:clap, what I'm gonna do is get a compression gland and mount it on the roof in the same place makeitfit has his socket, the 2 wires coming out the CG will have a connector on it or crimp terminals, will that work?:nenau if not, makeitfit, where can I get these Military style plugs?

how many connections in that military plug pete, or would a 12n/s work?
5 connections on this one, but you can have more or less accordingly.
I'll crawl through my fleabay feedback and see if I can find the supplier:thumbs
PS what's a 12n/s :nenau

I thought a 12 n and or "S" was the plug for ya towing electrics?:nenau

Makeitfits military style connectors are probably Plessey MK7's or similar, available in all sorts of pin configurations....have a google for them.

Will somthing like this work mounted flush in the roof?

Dioesnt say what current it can handle :augie and what's it made of in the rust department

That Plessy plug & socket takes me back to my national service days, I worked on the ranges at Shoeburyness near Southend Essex, when ever we were pulling out cables the sargeant would shout 'mind the plessy ends' occesionally got the reply, 'its OK sarge, I tied a knot in the wire where it broke it should be OK'
The sgt was a dead ringer for capt mainwaring for those old enough to remember Dads Army
Watch the ring on the end, if they get a bit distorted they may not screw on, it was 1959 so things mat have changed a bit but the ones in the picture look the same, some had loads of pins must have been more than a dozen

yeah towing elecs, bit lumpy but decent sized pins.

got me looking at all sort of plugs now, was in hospital
other day and a nice 11 pin keyed plug on a heart beat
monitor of all things.

have you tried rs components, electronics porn....

Yeah, hope everythings ok, I'll have a look at rs components, I might speak to my uncle as he deals and operates amateur radios:thumb2

if you got spotlights you will need a fairly high current rating and you only need 3 pins.

1 for positive to spots
1 for positive to side markers
1 negative

Something like this fits the bill, Although if your running big spotlights current might be a bit too high for them.

Thinking of running 4 spots with 100w bulbs. The lights are metal and glass. Not plastic so no melting risk:bow. I'm using fat 30 amp wire. There will be 8 marker LEDs that'll take nearly no power
