Wipers wont turn off

Help, My front and rear wipers wont turn off, the switch is in the off posistion and the only way to turn them off is to pull the fuses. Im not sur eif it's linked but a few hours before I cleaned the near side inner wing area with a hosepipe, only for a few seconds as I spilt some diesel changing the filter.

Its driving me crasy!!

If you look below the front wiper motor there is a rely box, this will be where your problem is, if it got water in it, open it up and dry it out, my wipers would not stop once and I just gave it a bang and all has been well since, just stuck contacts, but if you have got water in it hopefully after drying out it will recover, Rick

Hi I can see 2 multi plugs but no relay? do I have to take the motor out or is the relay visible from looking in the engine bay, its a 2002 LWB 3.0d.

Ah do not know about a 2002 car, but I suspect that after your washing in this area water has got into one of the multi plugs, pull them apart and check as sometimes the rubber seals that work very well, fall out un-noticed and from that point on water will penetrate, Rick

Ok thanks will check, would this also make the rear wiper come on as well? what colour would the relay be?

I dont see any relay on the wiring diagram in the manual (doesnt mean there isnt one there!). The only common thing is the combination switch, so if you have shorted something with water you could be getting a live neutral back to the switch maybe! Check the wash motor connection, thats down there and that goes back to the switch also.
Could also be a knackered switch but hopefully not.

On the older models the relay is grey and is located on the bulkhead under the bonnet just below the wiper motor.Ive got mk4 havent looked at it but it does have the body control thing on it so may be a relay in there

check your earth contacts at the wiper motor plug... mine had a bad earth and it gave the same sort of fault!
