Well the truck has developed a nice fault:doh driving along & put the washers on to clear the front screen as you do then noticed the rear wiper going even tho it wasn't switched on:eek: tried the front wipers & they also won't switch off at all & the only way to stop them is to pull the fuses out. Stripped the stalk off & sprayed it with WD40 & bashed it a few times:lol & it's still the same. Am I right in thinking my wiper stalk has developed a nice fault or could it be something else

Given that both wipers are going all the time, I would say it's common to one fault ....... the stalk mechanism.

It's happened a couple of times in the past that the front have stuck on but a quick wiggle of the stalk sorted it out not this time:doh

Sounds like a switch contact in the stalk, unlikely that both park positions would have failed on front & rear at same time.

If the park position was at fault I would expect them to stop wiping when they were switched off not keep on going. Looks like i've got to try & find a switch now that should be fun as it's a 55 plate:doh

Sweety, obviously don't rule out the switch but I'm sure this has cropped up before and wasn't it something to do with the controller under the bonnet? On the older ones it is on the bulkhead at the passengerside.
Didn't the controller get water inside or something.

Will see if I can find it cheers Jim Haven't washed under the bonnet for a while now or been through any fords etc so can't really see water getting into it all I did was wash the truck earlier but just used a bucket to rinse it off

Had to give up for tonight as it's so dark, put the fuse back in for the front but unplugged the stalk & no wipers going so to be it has to be either the stalk or the relay which I still can't find anywhere & it doesn't help that there is no info of the relay box under the bonnet at all nor on the inside fuse box what the relays are for:doh:doh

think the relay for yours is in the passenger foot-well left hand side, but as rear is affected as well I would go for stalk, Rick

Thanks for that Rick:thumbs will pull the cover off in the morning & have a look, was hoping to find the relay to see if it would show up an open circuit. TBH as both are on now after just washing the front screen to me it point more to the stalk but if it is that I feel it's failed very early:augie I'm hoping Banshee see's this thread as I know he managed to fix his & would love to know where the fault was in the stalk:augie

it is not just a relay it is a control module, timer device and brings wiper on when washer activated, so it is just possible it links the rear wiper as well, Rick

Front & rear wash/wipe have always worked separate to each other like my 1999 T2 did, the wash part still works as it should but only way to stop these wipers is to pull the fuses out or unplug the stalk not what you really want to keep doing this time of year. Intermittent wipe & the flick wipe have gone all I have is constant normal wipe or the fast wipe so in a way the switch is still partly working

I know you're all getting sick of me posting::eek: well I always seem to do my best thinking in the shower which I've just had:lol i'm wondering if the reason I can't find the relay is because there isn't one as such the reason I say this is when I opened up the wiper stalk there was a printed circuit board with what looked like a micro chip in the centre of it being stressed I didn't think anything of it at the time so am wondering if Nissan have integrated it into the stalk:nenau hopefully I have tracked down 2 second hand stalks so will get one ordered tomorrow & hope it solves the problem if it does i'lo open up the old stalk again & take some pic's of the insides for you all

Stalk failure seems favourite cause in my opinion.

The park contacts overide the switch and keep the wiper motor running until it is in the park position. The park contact has a seperate power supply so it carries on working when the stalk is in the off position until the park contact stops the supply.

This can fault in two ways.
1. The park contact power supply fails so when you switch off the wiper it stops wherever it is on the screen leaving your blade in a part wipe postion.

2. The park supply is not switched off due to contact fault so wiper carries on running all the time from the feed on the park contact.

Your problem would be failure 2. I can't see how this would cause rear wiper to fault as each motor has it's own park contact. A fault on both motors at the same time seems very unlikely.

Relay fault is possible but how this causes rear wiper to engage is difficult to imagine.
A broken switch contact in the stalk seems the most likely cause as the thin brass contacts can break in half with debris causing shorting inside the twist section.

In the past I took a combination switch apart that had failed on my old Carlton it was lights & wipers and lights failed when I switched off with a load of brass and plastic landing on the carpet. Impossible to put back together had to bite the bullet and buy new one for about £70 as it was winter and did not have time to find one in a scrap yard.

This morning I thought i'll refit the fuses & see if the wipers are still playing up & it's fixed itself:eek::eek: Alex did mention soaking the plug sockets under the front wiper motor with WD40 which I did last night as well as all the relay's in the relay box under the bonnet. Only time will tell I think:augie

If they replacement wiper switch isn't too expensive I would be tempted to have one in for stock if you know what I mean.

Know what you mean Jim but have put on hold getting a spare stalk for the minute as money is a little tight & the truck really could do with a set of brake pads & i'm sure i've got one or two glow plugs dieing

Things wouldn't normally be as tough but still paying my parents back the money we borrowed off them to get our caravan earlier in the year, just 4 months to go then totally dept free again:clap
