winter tyres - road use only

Hi all,

I'm looking for a good set of wintertyres for road-use only. Now, I have Silverstone AT's (235/75 R15) and I want to change them for the folowing reasons:

1) The Silverstones are no winter tyres and this year only I'm going twice to the mountains for skiing.
2) In one year I've been off-road 3 times. More than over 20,000km were on the road.
3) Driving in the rain for the past weeks, I've slipped already a few times and the misses complains that the car breaks out at roundabouts.
4) I have read that with roadtires, the car should consume less. Is it possible to have 0,5l to 1l / 100 km less?

So if anyone has any experience...let me know!

Im on At's too. no problems.

maybe you need to check the oil in the LSD.. that can cause break out on corners..

@ Zippy: I'll have it checked. Within 1000 km the car needs a big maintenance.

But I need wintertyres because the one I have now aren't and they are needed in most european countries...

Check out vredesteins winter tyre range. I've used these in the past on other vehicles and they are fab in the wet and snow/ice.

Yes you may get a slight improvement in economy with road type tyres on.

And as Zippy stated, you may need to change the Limited Slip Differential oil in the rear Diff. as it tends to make these trucks "Skip out" on roundabouts etc. when the oil is past its best.
The rear diff. will take 3 litres of LSD oil .

and if you want a little bit more fuel economy I have fitted a K&N induction kit (57i) to two of my Terranos and gained around 8% improvement (23mpg increased to 25mpg)

I fitted yokohama geolander go 12's on my wifes suzuki 4x4 for this same reason, they are also supposed to out perform BFG AT's off road! and have a unique system for grip in snow, they use little serated 'cuts' to collect tiny bits of snow and use that as grip, apparently snow is brilliant at gripping on snow.

They have been on almost a year now and i cant fault them and we take the car over fields and grass every day, as well as a lot of on road driving with no loss of fuel economy or and road noise, though we have yet to try them in snow!

the down side is that they are a little exspensive.

previously the car was fitted with the factory original bridgestone duellers and these are unbelievably better!
