Hi all, my son has just brought the 3 litre back from a camping trip to the dales. Unfortunately on the way back a truck threw up a stone of some sort which has grazed the glass rather than chip it. Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a polishing repair that can be done?

How much is a new screen as in fairness the edges are delaminating too.

Do you have glass cover on your insurance. If so that should cover the repair/new windscreen normally without affecting any No Claims.

If you don't, is your insurance due before the MOT.....:augie

Most insurance companies will repair your screen f.o.c. Some use a clear polymer filler of some sort that the put over the chip etc and when it is dry they can buff it up so it is almost invisible. Trouble is you need to do the repair as soon as possible for the best effect as once dirt gets into the mark / chip its not always possible to clean out the dirt/salt/rain stain etc.

Seems the market is full of windscreen polishing kits due to windscreen wipers grazing/scratching the screens. Never used it but picked it at random for here.

Wonder if you could get a heated screen for a Terrano if you are thinking of changing it.

Unfortunately the insurance companies class a windscreen repair as a claim, so it doesn't effect your no claims but when you renew you have actually had a claim. So sadly this isn't an option that I can use due to other truck being written off that would be two claims in less than 12 months.

So we only feasibly have the pay for it ourselves option.

I would pop round to your local windscreen repair to see what they say. I repaired a chip myself with a kit but your problem is different so ask the experts.

I don't believe this, I was expecting around 400 500 quid for a replacement screen fitting. Err no £130

Halifax Windscreens, bigbunnys brother inlaw used to have a garage and he recommended them so thouht I'd give them a call. So will sort out when and book it in now I know it's passed mot.

Cheers. I've a chip that made the mot guy suck air through his teeth but I notice it's not even made it to the advisory sheet.
