I got so fed up with the free upgrade prompt I have gone onto windows 10.

Beginning to wish I had not bothered as when I tried to log onto this site it asked for my password as the favourites and passwords had not migrated.

Had to log on with my old PC to find password !

Other niggles include dates being American format and having to find UK settings.

Compared to some of the issues I've had they are minor and you want to count yourself lucky!!!!

I've had issues with the touch screen not calibrating, Ublox GPS Receiver not working, 3G modem not working..........

Can't even upgrade at work yet either as the RSAT tools don't work correctly :doh

Sadly, just another epic paragraph in the woeful tale of sh1t3 software from MicroShaft!!!

I would like to change our desktop, but there is no way on planet earth I am buying anything with Microsh1t on it at the moment or for the foreseeable future.

I am desperately hoping that some independant "Geek" company comes up with an operating system that is stable, NOT memory hungry, NOT full of bloatware, NOT full of security holes, IS customisable to what I want rather than what they want, and has an emulator to run proprietary software.

How long do you think I'll have to wait?

:(

Forever!!!!!!!! :doh

The frustrating thing is that I know (read an article) that there are about 10+ independant operating systems out there that will give you a stable operating system in about 20 - 30 seconds from start up. You need to be rather geeky to use them apparently, but maybe there is hope for the future.

:nenau

I will be sticking with what I have, it works, is fast enough and whats more I know how to use what I need, 10 can go away, Rick

I upgraded to windows 10 & yes start up was faster etc but all my photo's looked very grainy as if they had been taken by a very old VGA camera, none of my video's would play inc those from my dash came & the SD card reader on my Sony Vaio stopped working:eek::doh uninstalled it & went back to good old windows 7:thumbs One thing I did notice about 10 was it was trying so hard to be like android but failed as I find android so much more user friendly than win 10

LINUX

I abandoned windoze 6 years ago and will never go back.

Try Mint 17.2 which is the latest version supported till 2019 and it's free.

You don't need to be geeky to install it or use it. Just imagine the same steering wheel, gearstick and break pedals, there's just a different animal under the bonnet.

Give it a serious go, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Just looked at the LinuxMint video, thanks for the link.

Will be looking further into this at some point. The XP desktop is occasionally unstable, when it finally falls over that will probably give me the shove to get my backside in gear!

:thumb2

I tried windows 10 , ended up with no sound when playing videos amongst other problems , and that bloody cortana gets on my ----- , so I went back to 8.1 :D

Cortana, Siri, you can tell that the bulk of MicroShite's software engineer's are single.

Who else would be okay with a female chipping in all the time and telling them what to do. !

No married man thought that would be a good idea!

:D

No fingerprint log on !!

Oh and my fingerprint log on will not work - got the HP upgrade but not sorted it yet. Might go back to Win 7.

I 'updated' to Windows 10 from Windows 7 on my business laptop. Was working fine, then the last upgrade screwed my laptop up. Very slow, unresponsive programs, many crashes (blue and black screens). I was unable to roll back to Windows 7, restore points didn't work and the Lenovo recovery partition didn't work. So I have managed to get some stuff off and saved in safe mode, but have had to pay 37 euros to get the Lenovo 'flavoured' recovery disk.

Just hope the main business desktop (upgraded to Win 10) does not suffer from the same fate. Lucky that all my business records etc and emails are cloud based.

Soooo! can you get one with windows 10 ready installed or do you have to get a windows 8 and go through all this faff, I noticed all the adds say update to window 10 :doh

Definitely sticking with 8.1........life is to short for all the hassle with 10.......:nenau
