Windows 10 Prof started playing up

Well my Mail App has stopped working for no obvious reason. Having to use alternative e-mail routes.

Never have managed to get the fingerprint reader to work there is no menu for it on Settings Account Sign in options. Device Manager says it's all ok with latest driver.

Just after I was thinking its a stable platform !

I am using a HP ProBook 6570b laptop.

Had a gander all I found was a deleted link to a Lenovo website fix !

Just had a look and there was 3 versions of your laptop on the hp site. Gave more download options if I selected windows 7 rather than 10. None of them were anything to do with lenovo.

Yeah it was on Win 7 and all worked fine. No doubt HP will do a 64 bit set of drivers soon.

Fixed all the Mail problems with a fresh Win 10 Pro download and it didn't delete any files!!

I upgraded my Lenovo laptop from Win 7 to Win 10, worked for a while, then after another upgrade it screwed my laptop up. I had to buy a new one...

Not sure software can break your laptop but good excuse to get a new one.

I suspect it is the automatic updates that messed mine up as a lot of other things went wrong such as my Panerai Screensaver stopped working, lost mail app function and picture on my log in disappeared to name but a few.

I've seen and heard from a few sources that the very best option is to do the upgrade to get the license. Then download the full win 10 media and completely reload your machine as a win 10 machine. This makes a lot of sense but I really can't be bothered with all that.

That's what I did though I was a bit fly by wire when I did it but it worked fine.

Cool, I did notice that HP had a lack of drivers and software options for windows 10 which is probably the reason for no working fingerprint scanner.

windows 10 put another upgarde 10 in nov and that has caused trouble for some including me so went to system and restored to older version and all is well,let win teck teem know about the problems and so far no new upgrades have buggered it up.

I have built PCs for many a year, so like you thought it was impossible for software to screw a PC up, but it defo screwed it up. To start after the Win 10 upgrade everything ran VERY slowly taking several minutes to open the browser or another tab. Nuking it back to Win 7 did not help. Then it would not boot past the start up screen with the options for bios settings etc. I spent a week or two trying to sort it without success, different memory etc. In the end I got it back to factory settings but it would only work OK for a few days before going on a very go slow. I got very fed up with it, at the time Windows were doing a £100 trade in for any 'working' laptop under 5 or 6 years old, so I bought a new Lenovo from John Lewis, they gave a 3 year warranty. So I sent the old Lenovo back for the £100, that was a lot more than I would have got for it. Just hope the testers don't run it for more than a few days :augie

I try to avoid these kind of topics as this is what I do day to day for a living and when I'm not at work I try to forget about Technology as much as I can.

I've got a Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 (same rig as you're friendly AA man when he turns up to a roadside recovery) I use it for everything, GPS Mapping, Car Diags, Web Browsing, etc etc I've spent about £300 on upgrading bits and bobs on it like a Waterproof Rubberised backlit keyboard, add-on uBlox GPS module that came from Canada!!!! Hard Drive Heater (Laptop is now capable of running down to -20 degrees centigrade) :thumb2

I was running Windows 7 on it no problems as all, went to 8.1 and had 6 or 7 issues with drivers etc which after hours and hours of research I resolved and finally had a stable base image which I took a compressed sector by sector clone of and should the worst of the worst happen I have it on another HDD in a safe. This is on top of my Acronis TrueImage Schedule that runs twice weekly to another external HDD that is constantly plugged into my docking station :thumb2

Recently I took the plunge and due to being an IT Professional grabbed the Win 10 ISO and built my Toughbook from the ground up again using the same instructions I created when I did my 8.1 build (which is well documented over on toughbooktalk.com) and was very impressed having only a calibration issue with the touchscreen meaning that was useless and it wouldn't recognise my 3G GOBI card which rendered my SIM card and 3G capability useless on the move

I've been pretty annoyed with it however 3 days ago I got some important updates through from Microsoft, I always allow them to download but prompt me before install, whilst reviewing the updates I noticed that I had some optional ones pending from the week before 1 for a Fujitsu USB Touch Panel and one for my Siemens 3G GOBI Card, allowed them to both install and now my Toughbook is fully functioning on Windows 10 and is awesome. :clap :clap

My next mod is going to be an SSD for it, but I'm waiting until price comes down and capacity goes up, Ideally I'd like something close to 500GB like I have in now as I have already filled 250GB of it :doh

I'm a bit like you Banshee, try to keep tech out of my home life but get dragged in more often than not. Just got rid of a cf52 as it was surplus to requirements, hated the keyboard though. As near tech i get at home is my ipad and galaxy s3 which I hate with a passion but too many other things to pay for so stuck with the phone.
