Okay, I've done a few searches and checked the workshop downloads but couldn't see anything. Usual apologies in advance if I missed something obvious, but was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction?

Last week while we were away the wife (these things always, always happen to 'Er Indoors!) put the little 'un in the rear nearside passenger seat and then shut the door. The window glass then dropped down halfway into the door. Quick bit of back history- window has never worked since I've had it, but all the others are fine. I popped the door card off and attempted to push it back up by hand but couldn't get it any further than an inch a half-two inch gap from the top.

Not wanting to try and force it and end up breaking the glass, having few tools and even less ideas, decided to find a garage somewhere and get help before it started raining again. :doh

Found a helpful back street garage and a mechanic who also couldn't move it any further than I could. He did however offer the temporary solution of taking the glass off the regulator so we could then lift it up and duct tape it secure. So this is what we did and it lasted the rest of the week and got us home.

But obviously it looks horrible, isn't completely secure and I want to have a bash at fixing it. Now when I say fix it, I'm not totally bothered about having it work on the electrics for now, but would just really like to get it back to how it was- not working, but securely in the frame, glass back on the regulator and without duct tape.

So my question is; does anyone have any pointers or links to a thread as to what I should be looking for or any tips? I'm going to have a look over the next few days, but was just hoping I might be able to once again tap into the vast amount of helpful experience round here and save myself a few hours' head and arse scratching whilst peering into the door :nenau

my 98 t2 rear window decided to drop when i was away with caravan,i pulled glass up but not fullr so gaffer taped it to weather proof it.
on getting back i popped door card off and found the wire push pull had come off the gear drive so took it all out and rewound it on gear drive.
on testing it did it again so i pushed window fully closed and cut a piece of wood to a length to wedge under bottom of glass and resting on impact side bar in door.sorted.
it seams that once they come off its a replacement job.
i think rick has a full mechanism down south and i am going down south this summer.

not much can be done with these regulators when they go wrong, but I have several here so if you want one PM me, Rick

Thanks, chaps, just the ticket! I'll nip 'round Jewsons and get a bit of 4x2 over the next few days :thumbs

If and when I decide to make the repair more permanent, I'll give you a shout, Rick :thumb2

Thanks again!

Just thought I'd pop in to say thanks again to Panelbeater- worked a treat!

Not the prettiest bit of wood or job, but best bit I could find and no-one's going to see it...unless they look at this thread....:doh

Should do the trick for now anyway.

Oh, and it's 6 and a half inches long, should anyone from the future be in the same predicament, performing a search and reading this :thumbs
