I need your collective help please ;) I have an old Warn winch I'm fitting into the back of my truck. It only has two connection posts on it :augie
Can you suggest an easy wiring option please :thumbs

you need a winch contactor
the size being dependent on your winch rating

do you want a wired controller or a wireless remote control

Only two connectors, not seen one like that, guess it is either just goes one way or or it is earth and one for in and tother for out, but as said heavy winch contactors, Rick

It seems the old Warn jobbies were just two pole and need some sort of reversing solenoid :nenau
I'd rather have remote as I have some spares IF they can be hot wired in some way. I prefer simple though :thumbs

you just need 4 contactors for this, wire two to the + and - of battery and wire the other two so that the motor wires are swapped, you must of course make sure the two set cannot operate at the same time, this would usually be done with a changeover relay operating the contactor pull in coils, which in turn is driven by another that your wireless control operates, hope that makes sense, but will depend on the output of your remote, Rick

sorry the link didn`t work, but r1chos does

i find these the easiest way to wire them up,
only 1 contactor and a receiver (for the remote),

they need to be put somewhere dry or get a large enough waterproof enclosure to fit it all in

in fact I have just ordered the 12v contactor for my rear winch as the ones on it at the mo are getting so corroded it is clean it for every meet, this one is fully enclosed and a just under £50 delivered is good, saves lots of hassle, Rick

Not a problem for this application as it'll be in the back of the truck. Cheers all :thumbs Just need a trip up the scrappy now to find some long battery cables :naughty

I find a set of Jump leads from a Boot Fair, are a good way of getting heavy cable a lot cheaper than you can buy it by the Meter from most places.

I find with low voltage contactors that it is far better to go much higher rating than you need for long life and reliability, the number of kill switches I went through on bangers before I bought a big metal key operated one was untrue, really got fed up with missing races just because at the last minute got no power to start, Rick

Good idea  but one can often "find" all sorts up the scrappy :naughty
