Finally got my winch tray lazercut and folded at work.
Had to be modified before it even left the factory as the nmpty on the laser can't read a tape measure and made it 100mm too wide:doh
A bit of cutting, welding and drilling later it was done.

After I was happy that all the holes where in the right place it was back to work for a bit of powder coating.

Just a quick check that the mounting brackets line up

All good so today I hope to get the tray fitted and the front bumper modded to suit.

That looks the mutts nuts, very professional looking job :thumb2

Excuse me if I'm being thick here but does this mean that you'll be able to fit your winch with your current bumper setup or will you be needing a new bumper?

That's the idea.
The front bumper has to have the centre cut out but on the later models the hole is already there in the plastic.just the metal frame has to be modded.

Got the tray, winch and bumper done today, just the electrics to sort out when I've found a suitable place to put the solenoid box.
First job was bumper off and a wire brush of the front end and some underseal.

Next the fixing brackets

Then the tray

Next to go on was the winch and fair lead rollers

Now for the bumper, was originally just going to cut out the centre but after looking at some other installs I decided to cut it in half:eek:

No going back now:cool:
Trial fit now I need to hold it in place somehow:nenau

Out with the welder for a bit of bracket making

Just need to tidy up the trimming on the bumper and make a couple more brackets to pick up from the winch tray to the bumper but was starting to lose light and my tea was ready:lol
The almost finished look.

Quite pleased with how it went:thumb2

Looking great, although personally I am not sure about the cut down front bumper, I think I would like to keep it with just a cut out, although I wonder if it would grow on me.

Now, if I am to understand this all correctly....

The tray is mounted using the old Bumper bracket holes, and you now have none of the old metal part of the bumper behind the plastic top half you have put back.

Effectively, the plastic top half is just a cosmetic cover, with new mountings just to hold it in place.

The other question is, do you have an aircon radiator, or is that an oil cooler on the front?

I have got both, air con and oil cooler.air con is goosed got a major leak in system.
What are your thoughts with regards to them Clive?

Looking good, but...
access to the winch looks great... too great, how long would it take someone to unbolt it and remove the whole thing... a few minutes...

You might want to make getting to the bolts etc a bit more challenging.

Just a thought.

Sorry, not sure what you are asking my thoughts on here.

I always thought there was not enough room in front of the aircon rad, so that is great news.

I was looking at mine when I had the bumper off to do the lift, and could see where others had taken the cross member out and fitted to the side rails, but as the front on mine is not rusty, I am loathed to do that, your way looks a lot better.

I can't remember the bumper in enough detail, but I do wonder if you could cut the metal arms off the bumper iron, and with a but of angle on top of your plates that go onto the chassis, mount the iron back onto them.

Looking good

For a mk2 version I would consider making the front plate where the fairlead attaches wider.

Did think about putting a blob of weld on the end of the bolts but don't want to weaken them by doing so.

Was going to have it tapered up from the corners but the guy who program's the laser managed to make a cock up of this one first time round:doh
Could always weld a gusset in there.

My intension is to have a box section frame behind the plastic but ran out of time and daylight today.

That would work, I was just thinking of an easier way for mass production and shipping:naughty:naughty

Look good mate:thumb2 Have seen the chopped bumper mod a few times & it's growing on me each time I see it

just need the bar work to go with it.:naughty

When we are not so busy at work I might look into a full winch bumper.
Took an age to get the tray and brackets done so didn't want to push it :lol
