Have you looked at the shackles you already have?? They are probably rated high enough.
 
Bow shackles should be considered in lieu of D shackles as they provide a greater area if using a strop and minimise bunching of the strop in the shackle.
Bow shackles are also better suited for an off centre pull, making them a better choice for recovery.
 
Don't forget these shackles are rated for lifting with a 6x safety factor. That gives you a 36 ton breaking strain. If you allow 3x safety for winching that still gives you a 12 ton capacity. My Largest shackle is 4.25 tons.

ah right thats cleared this up a little. I was trying to play safe but in reality the stuff im doing I cant see myself ever hitting that limit. :thumb2

R1cho your pic just reminded me of a video from Aus I think, where a crane is lifting one of those huge mining dump trucks onto a ship for transport and the chains/shackles give out! :eek:

Anyone else seen it? Must try and find the vid...
