Will 15" be ok?

Looking to get some spare wheels as I have muds on at the mo and the wife is moaning like mad about the noise when we go out.

currently I have 16" but would 15" be ok? reason for this is there seems to be more around.

im running 15, at the mo, 16's in the shed for now.

not sure depending on year . the newer ones went up to 16"

i know the brake drums are much bigger on the last ones 2000 on

having said that paullllyyyyyyy has put 15's on his 04 plate and they turn ok .

his brake shoes fell apart , could be linked with the lack of space to cool them . will have a better idea on that after tuesday this week . when he's getting it fixed:bow

Do you think a set of road biased tyres would quiet the noise down so much? You must be running some hefty mud tread tyres?

I had 50/50 ATs on mine and the noise was not noticable... even up to 60ish on the motorway?

I do a lot of off road, shooting, 4x4 instruction, and tree work in woodlands

Your a better man then me if your gonna jack the car up every Friday to change the tyres, then swap them back again on a Sunday evening!!!!!

My 50/50's never let me down - lots of driving in muddy fields/woodland/bridleways, up steep hills... occasionally towing a cattle trailer (father-in-law owns a farm and runs 50/50's too).

I'd try source a set of 50/50's first and swap the tyres.... but maybe I'm just a lazy ass!!!! :augie:lol

15's have AT's on 16 road tyres..

Got 15s on my 2001 - it came with 16s. Not sure about bigger brakes on later models - would need to check that, thought they were all the same.

Got Maxxis Buckshot mudders on and they are vitually silent despite being a 80/20 type.

If you've never got stuck on 50/50 ATs - you ain't been trying.

No problem with 15"s, plus theres a better, cheaper choice of tyres.

TERRA the rear brake drums are definitely bigger on the Mk IV (don't know about MkIII) - when i discovered my shoes were bolloxd i toyed with the idea of nicking the ones off the wifes 99-plater MkII (now Colins! - the truck that is, not the wife....) but when i went to check, the drums off my truck were so much larger that they actually fitted OVER the top of the MkII ones!

Thats what you call an upgrade!

Yeah just doe some digging and it appears they change at Mk2 - Mk3.

Early have bendix 254mm (10") later have bosche 280mm (11") - and on the mavericks I've found some Sumitomo 260mm ones, but listed as being rare.

Never noticed they were any bigger on new one - but they're both pretty big anyway.

I think you're all missing the point. What's needed is a pair of these -

Choice of application -

1) On wifes head to remove tyre noise
2) On your head to remove wife moaning noise

Option 2 is the preferred method of use as they can be left on in the house/around town etc for continued peace and quiet!
