Before mine i had a Suzuki Vitara that i originally got to go off roading in, but that never happened.....i wanted to stay with the 4x4 and had seen the terranos around, so had a look at one and was impressed by the size inside and the standard of build and equipment etc along with a nice sounding 2.7TDi

So i found a good one and am enjoying it very much, seems easy enough to work on long live my terrano....

always wanted a 4x4. so when the 806 died i put my foot down with a firm hand

and the Mrs said I could have one

bought a caravan and needed some thing to tow it and it was the only one that matched the money we had left . what luck eh :thumbs

yep,

also very good at tugging... i have to keep sloing down...

We had a boat, we wanted a trailer, we needed something that would tow 2 tonne.
We wanted Diesel, better torque. We live in a village on a hill in a rural area.

We looked at:

Four track: Galvanized body, but felt very agricultural.
Frontera:- 2 tonne towing limit, heard reports of some minor failures.
Disco: We were on a test drive, on trade plates, we were flagged down by another Disco owner who advised us of his woes in the last 12 months from new.
Terrano : Didn't like the alternative interior trims.
Maverick: Ticked all the boxes, nice to drive, nice interior. Electric everything, sunroof mirrors etc, but no aircon.

Best choice, most owners would have swapped their cars many times in the 16 years we have owned it.
Never thought we would keep it that long to be honest. It still looks great.:thumb2 Looks like it is only a few years old, apart from the styling, I should really get a private plate.

I have that problem too.

Too much month left at the end of the Money.... :lol :lol

had fourtrak still not as powefull as the 2.7 lol! had 3.2troll 6cyl diesel loved that to bits but it rotted off its chasis so bad even the bent mot man said no!

My last company car was a Mercedes estate....bloody awful thing, like driving a sofa around. And with four young kids, I needed a seven-seater so I dumped it, took the allowance and bought a new aubergine :doh Maverick just as they went end of life.

Lked it so much that I ran it three years then bought a (nice green and silver) brand new MkII T2 automatic from one of the parallel importers, saving around £6k on the list price from a dealer  and it went downhill from there LOL..ran that for ten years then last year bought an 02 plate MkII manual and then replaced the wifes old auto with another auto, this time an 02 MKI (also green and silver!:D)

And in well over 350,000 miles (I've just counted it up and slightly shocked when they aren't the only cars we run) the only faults I've had were an automatic gearbox that went south after I overloaded it :doh (£1500:eek:) and a rear wheel bearing that broke up without warning an knackered a halfshaft....other than that its been fuel/tyres/fuel/fuel/fuel/tyres/more fuel....:augie That and the usual MoT stuff like gaiters, pads etc..

But with the cost of fuel, we are winding things down a bit....selling the manual soon and putting rapeseed in the auto, and pootling around more often in the Micra (terrific fun especially when you don't give a shite about a car LOL) or the fagtop.:)

Well then??? Why did you get a terrano/maverick and what do you like about it??

Did you forget the Patrol, Xtrail and others?

I had an Isuzu Trooper from 2000 to 2007 and did well over 100,000 miles in it. It was a great motor, brilliant towcar and very reliable. If Isuzu had not stopped making the Trooper in June 2003 (last UK Troopers are 2002, irrespective of how they are plated!!), I would probably have bought another.

I decided that, if were going to be forced to buy a different motor then I'd want it to be better off-tarmac than the Trooper, at least as good on it, at least as big & preferably have leather seats and all the bells & whistles.

My shortlist was:

Toyota Landcruiser (the proper one!!) ..... couldn't find one at a price that I wanted to pay

Land Rover Discovery III .... ditto

Nissan Patrol ..... found a two year old motor with only 13000 miles on the clock at a nice price at Westway Nissan in Stockport - so I bought it.

What do I like about it? It's big, comfortable, a great towcar and much MUCH better offroad than the Trooper. The aircon is better than the Trooper's too.

What do I not like? Fuel consumption could be better - probably no worse, though, than the Trooper. I've been wrestling with an engine problem for the last year (overboost issue).

always wanted a 4x4. Got a Fourtrak first and it scared the hell out of me in Wales. Sold it, but as we wanted a caravan, i started looking at 4x4s again. Decided landrovers where just too expensive for what you got, and found the Maverick. Had seen them about before, and always thought they looked good, so did my research and found that they were good cars. Bought one, had tons of trouble but grew to absolutely love it. And I do. I love the looks, the power (i dont mind slow!), the practicality (i just chuck in the bales of hay no fuss). I love it in the snow, I love the idea that I can go green laning when i want (although i still havent yet due to the handbrake issues).

I love the drive, its much more car like, and safe, compared to the Fourtrak, and just as capable.

I dont like the colour, but i got the car at a good price even with the problems that came about. Its now my baby, and I love it! awesome truck!

My dad first got one in 2006 for work and the gearbox broke. Only got 4th. So he scraped it:eek::( I wanted one ever since

wasnt it the 3ltr trooper and its injectors (made by cat?) that killed of trooper over here, went to commercial motor show at gaydon isuzu had the rodeo pickup there they had tonne bag sand on back compared to ford with transit with 0.5 tonne in metal weights strapped directly where they wanted it,isuzu was mighty impresive and ford rep admitted an own goal!

I got mine for free it was gonna be scrapped!it needed a brake pipe lol and its a minter.

I got one because I am 25 and ALWAYS wanted a pick-up truck, but at the moment saving for a wedding etc and could not wait any longer to get a 4x4.

My Mrs would not let me buy a landrover as she works for Paddock Motors (Landrover spares place) and knows how unreliable they are as an everyday car. Although very capable off road of course.

My Mrs' dad owns a Terrano and I know how reliable they are and how well priced they are for the size of the vehicle.

So went and brought myself one :) paid £2.5k for it and its probably the best 2.5k I have ever spent. Not a single thing wrong with it thus far (that I havnt caused ;) ) and sailed through its MOT first time this month.

I am now even considering NOT buying a pickup (was looking at a Navara) and keeping the Terrano until it simply wont drive any more :)

Awesome cars, awesome spec and awesome value for money!!!

dont buy a d22 navara without asking if engine bottom end mods been done major design fault on uk 2.5 engine means con rod out side block at low milage! www.nissan-navara.net

Talking of pickups heres another reason.....

If I'd bought (as I nearly did), say, a Navara, I'd have to pay £10.80 to drive the thing back into Wales over the bridge (and I have to go there and back a lot)

But I can take a fully loaded Terrano AND a dirty great twin axle trailer for £5.80.

Work it out yourself....:doh

I wanted to do a bit of light off roading, unfortunately I have the 2004 Maverick so can't go too far off road. But I also got it to tow my trailer tent and a 24ft double axle caravan. I have put proper tyres on (General Grabbers) so it is a bit better off road now....:thumbs
