I have been having problems with sever pain in my hands, affecting mainly my wrists and thumbs, but the other fingers as well. I can't move my thumbs with out them clicking, and my wrists are red hot and grating. The worst part is I keep dropping things, and at the moment can't very easily, and with out pain run a nut up a bolt using my fingers. By the end of the day, they urt so much, I can't get to sleep, even taking pain killers before I go to bed.

I went to the doctors, the first time since 2007, and she packed me off for Blood tests and Xrays.. Now I am neadlephobic, but was very brave and had 10 pints of blood taken out of my arm without passing out..

Next off was the Xrays... The lady doing them took the first 4, developed them, and then said, "wow, what did you do to your wrist" (Nothing)... followed by, "I take it you are left handed" (I'm not). She then took another 8 xrays. She was lovely, showing me how the Xray machine worked, how the digital film was developed, and showing me my xrays and what was what... She took time to "unofficially" explain what all the bright white bits were, but said that "we had never had this conversation as they need to be looked at by the expert"

So today, back to the doctors for results, as my hands are no better... Apparently the results are fine, showing no signs of arthritis, or any other problems.. Now I was a bit surprised by this, especially after what the lady taking the xrays had said, and explained this to the doctor, to be told that a radiographer is not the same as a radiologist, and it's the radiologists prognosis that matters. Fair enough.

Anyway, long story shortened, they do not know what is wrong with my hands, and are now going to send me off to see a physiotherapist.

Anyway, while all this has been going on, I have been waking up in the morning, taking 2 pain killers, and then working through the pain, finding that by about lunch time I can do most things, and the pain is bearable. I have been doing a fair bit of work on Suz's car, but my car is also throwing it's toy out of the pram.

Today I went out, and thought the rear exhaust looked wrong, only to discover it had snapped off at the join above the rear axle. I rang the motor factor and ordered a new section, and gasket, which would be in the store by 14:30. I set to work removing the remainder of the flange so I could fit the new bit. The bolts were rusted solid, and would not undo, even with the pneumatic impact gun, and in the end the nuts rounded off completely. I ended up laying under the car using the Dremil to cut the nuts off, and finally managed to get it all free. Popped round to the motor factor, to discover that the deliver had been mislaid, as Dartford was in gridlock owing to a Police led incident, and would now probably not be delivered until tomorrow..

So now, I have to get back under the car again tomorrow... Worst bit, all that using power tools has aggravated my hands, and they are so sore now...

Oh, and the Doctor took my blood pressure, told me it was high, and I need to loose weight....

So basically, I am feeling a bit sorry for myself...

Sorry for yourself, you are lucky to be alive, 10 pints from one arm? wow, but seriously Clive you clearly have something going on, could be a virus or such, Rick

Oh dear poor you Clive, been in the wars or are you just an old fart:lol my kids would tell you I'm the later :doh

I'm not going to tell you to take anything because that would be wrong. I get neck pain from time to time and I take ibuprofen for that which is an anti inflammatory. Does the trick for me but it's important to eat food before I take any. A couple of biscuits is not enough it has to be more substantial.

So far doc hasn't been worried about my BP which is surprising but I try to keep salt low and don't have much caffeine or alcohol so that must help.

I'm feel for you bud, because I'm not far behind you. I have lots of pain in my knees, neck & my lower back is buggered.
I also have the Dr's not knowing what it is.................. Just wear & tear they say.
Do you find it's worse in winter?
In winter it seems to spread to my shoulders, elbows, wrists & fingers, they ache like hell.
You don't mention your age! I'm nearly fifty & they want me to work until I'm 67............. MY ARSE.

Cheers guys.

Have plenty of vit C, all my bloods were fine.

I am "whispers" 51.. and yes, worse in winter, usually starts in shoulders and ankles, progrssses to lower arms and knees. First time it has hit the wrists and fingers though. Lower back is also shot, but I blame that on the Peugeot I had to drive as a company car, the seat was shot and the metal bar at the bottom of the back pressed into my lower back for 120k miles over 2 years.

I dread to think what I'd be like at 50! lets just say lots of horse riding accidents and lots of bone & joint issues.

get some wrist supports, sports ones are good they retain the heat so enabling the wrist to say warmer and "jam" less.

Think of it like the oil in an engine flows better when its warm

I've got those for when they are really sore, especially since I type all day long. but otherwise I have one of those copper/magnetic bracelets.

Painkillers are herbal

Stuffed knees, elbows, neck, lower back, creaky hands.....far too long hunched over a chainsaw, or up trees......

I will have to retire properly one day, and I think I will just probably seize up.

I take Brufen, but not too often, and swear by Tiger Balm....but at 65, I think I'm not too bad......:nenau

Just shy of 44 and been diagnosed with arthritis in my wrists.
Sports support for wrists when it's really bad but I'm buggered if it's going to stop me doing what I do.
There is always someone out there worse than you so I thank my lucky stars this is my only ailment :thumb2

Yes Elty there is always someone worse off.

We're a right bunch aren't we :lol :lol

So guys this is where I ask for some.....my dear Mum of 94 yrs, passed away last Friday, after a long hard fight. Life goes on, and so do we, but without our rock.......:rose:rose:rose

Here's a thought for you.

The other half, better known as the wife had pain in her knees and shoulders and fingers, which kept moving around, similar to what you describe in that it's in the joints and seems like arthritis. She was worried that it was going to be like this for ever.

Arthritis doesn't move about. You have it in specific joints.

GP didn't know what it was, but she happened to be at the physio (a sports one) and he suggested that it might be allergy based. So, she started by dropping anything with wheat in it, such as bread. Bingo, pain disappeared. Other things that can cause it is fizzy juice.... its really a case of trying to find what (if anything) causes it.

Worth a try, especially if you haven't been getting anywhere!

Uhm. Could be something in that. Food for thought :lol

Sorry to hear that bud, you have my sympathies. I lost my dad at 45, cancer, a strong proud guy, died in a hospital bed. I think of him often but thankfully I remember how great he was and keep the fire lit :thumb2
