Well I changed the belts when I replaced the water pump but I seem to have a slight whistle when the engine hits 2.5K.

It seems to come from the engine bay front right and doesn't change in intensity past this in the rev range. I am going to service my brakes as they pull slightly to the right so wondered what it might be?

Disc?
Belts?
Belt pulley?
Turbo pipe?
Turbo itself - hopefully not.

Engine runs great and its not a loud whistle but I know it needs seeing to. - Oh this is a 2.7 tdi

Ah!!!!! Check the flexi joint on your front exhaust downpipe.

1000000% this is what it is, that rev range fits perfectly

Pulling to the right under braking will be slider pin on the passengers side seized ;)

OOoooh never thought of that, the previous owners had the whole exhaust system replaced last year so didnt think it would be an exhaust issue

Im going to get both calipers off and clean the pistons and give them a good service and have new pads ready to go on - don't get me wrong it stops fine but when dealing with 2 tonne of metal having it at its peak always helps lol

I think i read that after an exhaust change some terrano / mavs aquire a whistle although it doesn't mean there's a problem...

MMmmm food for thought, if its not an issue I could leave it but it is a bit annoying when travelling and not sure a whistling car would keep the wife happy when we drive France this year lol, now if it did a tune that would be diferent:augie

I got a bit of a whistle from the turbo after fitting a new exhaust.
Can't really hear it in the car that bad but when the Mrs uses it and pulls off the drive I can hear it.

Couple of these instances being reported recently by members on here, was it Rustic who got this at Kwik-Fit? and someone else.

This is usually caused by poorly constructed flexi joints. The ones from Milners are fantastic!!!!! Really good quality

That's what I've got on mine now. The full system is from milners.

How old is it?

so if I get a better flexi section my whistling days should be over? maybe if I get down under the car whilst its revved (the wife knows where the insurance docs are) it might show this as the point in question?

You will def be able to feel it blowing if she revs it and your underneath near it.

As for the whistle, you wont be able to hear it as the turbo doesn't spool in neutral, only when in gear and moving ;) (not an advisable test whilst underneath)

Banshee I think the wife would think it an excellent test lol:clap

My terrano whistles all the time, when you pull up at a junction you can hear the whistle growing in pitch :lol

I should mention I have no exhaust :naughty would never go back!

The flexi is around 16 month old and the rest was done last year.
It's not a really loud whistle like despot is describing as it's bearly audible in the car on mine.
My old middle section had two silencers on it but the milners one has got just one silencer.
I just put it Down to the tone of the exhaust.

Yes it was I... the whistle only occurred when the turbo cut in, so never happened when revving the engine when parked up.
Kwikfit at Brownhills were excellent, at first they refitted the front section, re sealed it, but was still an issue, I suggested it could be the exhaust, and to fit one made by an alternative supplier... They listened to me... but then I am quite assertive in these situations... not argumentative, or using bad language or raising my voice, that gets you nowhere, I gave them a solution to "their" problem.
Result... sorted.

Incidentally, you might want to eliminate the belts and pulley, so a simple test, slowly pour a cup of water over the belts when the engine is running, if it's the belts, then the noise will change.
PS... stand back when you do it lol...
