hi guys,

new thread here, which starter motor?

mine has gone, and I have trawled the forum on this subject. I have a 1997 TDI Maverick, manual. When I look on the internet for a starter, I get two results. one that looks like mine, and one that doesnt have the bell housing. Which one can I use? I ask because the one without the bell housing is much cheaper. My current unit is a bosch, and I think its a reconditioned unit thats probably lasted just over a year, before I bought the car. On the net, both units are listed as suitable in terms of year etc...

hope you can help!

I bought a second hand one to replace my old one and the two turned out to be different.

Mine (Original on the t2) had the housing on the end .... the "new" second hand one didn't.

Either way the mechanic, with a lot of swearing made it fit. It runs perfectly and has done for the last 3 months, never skipping a beat.

so they are interchangeable so long as they have the same number of teeth at the end.

Hope that helps.

Bill

cheers Bill, not sure about the teeth, maybe someone here will know if there is any difference...?

i got one from a 2 year old terrano, i phoned the place who breaks them and asked him how much he said £55 then i said i could get mine reconditioned for £40 so in the end i got it for £45, until know i never realised they cost that much.
