Hi All,

Now that I've acquired my new patrol (1996 Petrol 4.2), I'm looking at trying to be as kind as i can to the engine as I can
- Which petrol is everyone using now that some petrol types have been made defunct (e5 or E10)?
- Which oil is best to use? I've got some unopened Shell Helix 10W-40?

Thanks

I believe these old engines benefit from pure mineral oil, as for petrol you are going to be stuck with E10 very soon so you need to think about some additions 2EHN is a cetane improver that I use for Diesel, I think it is also good for Bio petrol, I also use Archoil a lubricity improver, but I will stop there as I know nothing about the 4.2, I guess it is fuel injected if so then yes what I have said applies, I have to state this is only my opinion, I could be wrong, Rick

I used to buy my 2-EHN from Goat Industries when it was branded as "Veggieboost" but you can't get it anymore.

I've been advised over at Vegetable Oil Diesel to avoid the unbranded stuff on eBay as it's poorly made :nenau

I wouldn't have though in an old 4.2 Patrol he'd have struggled with the amount of Cetane in E10?

Hi - yes it’s fuel injected

On the basis that it's basically the petrol version of my 4.2 diesel (I believe the blocks are near as damn it the same) I'd go a semi synthetic 10w 40.

I use Comma Eurolite in my 4.2 diesel and I see Comma recommend the same for the petrol.
