Hello all
Could someone tell me which oil to use for the 4x4 lever sump
and the diffs please?
As i have been asked by the mechanic at the garage.
Any extra information will be apreciated.
Thankyou

i believe its LSD oil, theres loads of topics on it just search the forum

If your mechanic doesnt know what to put in the axles / transfer box, and can't ring his oil supplier to ask, then ask yourself, what else is he bodging???

MUST be LSD SAE 75w-90 in the rear axle, LSD or straight 75w-90 in the front, and in the transfer box ATF dexron.

Thanks for your replys they were very helpfull.

Timbo's got a good point Paly but if you go here and click on the Find Product link you can enter your reg and postcode and it tells you what grades/types to buy and where.

Comma is owned by Esso and ultimately Exxon.

make sure it is the right oil! the rear diff has to be LSD and the gear box has to be GL4, GL5 apparently contains sulphur that damages yellow metal components

I wonder how many T2's have had the wrong gear box oil in them over the years, thus lending weight to the rumour that the early ones had 'weak' gear boxes?

Which models were rumoured to have a weak gearbox?

Was it MK1's 1993~1996?

allegedly - yes, but in my experience all of the ones I have seen with dodgy gearboxes have had pretty high mileage and no way of knowing what oil had been put in them over the years so in my opinion NONE had weak gearboxes. It pays to change the oils when you get a T2 to make sure it has the right oils in the right places :thumbs
