Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of updating my T2 2.7TDI and wondering what the benefits of staying with the 2.7 or going for a 3.0L?. I see they carried on making terranos with the 2.7 engines during and after the launch of the 3.0 models??

I don't know anything about the 3.0L models, I tow a boat+trailer weighing 1.1tons which the truck I have hardly knows it's there.

Any fors and against either engine / model would be greatly appreciated.

No way, keep the 2.7 and get a map or a chip or both :sly

The 2.7 is far more bullet proof and forgiving than the 3.0

Also from what I've heard the 3.0 don't like exhaust and engine mods very much, nor does it like veggie :thumb2

Just supe it up

3.0 all day, , smoother engine, better on fuel, pulls like a train.
3.0 is Sorted in the later Terrano, why chip, it's got the power to start with :nenau
Can't run it on veg, but so what.

Cat among the pigeons :lol:lol

Not a case of why chip, it's a case of cant chip if I'm not mistaken.

2.7 will run after the apocalypse which given UK's terrible position could be sooner than we think

My magic claim to fame is no chains on the 2.7 :sly even though the 3 only has an oil pump chain or something like that? :nenau

Alex mate :nono you know fine the chain argument doesn't hold weight with the 3.0 (for reference the chain only runs the cams, the rest is all gears like the 2.7)... reminds me a bit of some of the politicians running around Scotland at the moment  :doh

Chips are different from exhaust mods and other engine mods as they should (in theory) adjust everything to ensure it all stays in harmony. The danger is in mods that only affect one thing as it can be easy to upset the balance in the 3.0.

Saying that though, I've never yet felt I needed more power and my 3.0 engine does everything I need it to do without complaint and that's with it moving around a 2.5 ton kerb weight Trol not a lighter weight Terrano! (Still hanker after a 4.2 diesel conversion but that's just 'cos I love the idea of having one of those big diesels under the bonnet :naughty)

Fair comment, and yes I would also love a big diesel lump :sly

Go to the states, they run big V8 diesels in some pickups that sound awesome :)

Yum yum yum.

Could you imagine me in Texas, I'd be right at home, big fat dude tattooed up with a big pickup and 10 guns in the back :naughty

The 2.7 engine was fitted right up till the end of the T2's production so are easy to find if you wanted to stop with the engine you know

That sounds great until you have to fix something, it'd be expensive to keep flying Rick out :sly
