which air filter?

I'm looking to replace the air filter in my 2.7 TDi T2. Currently it has the standard (paper?) filter and airbox.

The K&N induction kit looks tempting, but is it a "bolt on" project, or do I also have to fabricate a new airbox to avoid it sucking hot air from the engine bay?

If the induction kit is no good, just replace the standard filter with something better?

The K&N's only ever need replacing once!!!

Should just be a straight swap for your horrible tatty damp paper one I'm sure you will find, they increase BHP by 1 or 2 I think as well :thumb2

Going rate for one is about £30 last time I checked

Not sure they changed the design or shape as the years went by but the K&N site seems to list a different one for every year :lol

Hi. I have a direct replacement K&N filter fitted in mine. Was around £35 on eBay. Revs much more freely now and a little torqueier.

Air Box stays!!!

The K&N just replaces the paper filter that you'll pull out :thumb2

I see what you mean now mate :thumb2

I wouldn't bother with one of those on a 4x4, would also make fitting a snorkel problematic in the future

Im against these anyway given the location it would live as you would have a big lump chugging away with mud n water splashing about, loads of heat and muck, bad idea me reckons :nenau

If you get the whole kit, with a bit of jiggery pokery, you can use it to put the K&N cone filter inside the stock air box, which means it still draws the air in from under the wing, and then if at a later date, you wish to fit a snorkel, and bring it in through the back of the airbox, which a lot of people do, it makes life a lot easier.

I fitted a K&N a couple of years ago to my pre-intercooler T2, definitely gives a tad more oomph at the expense of marginally more induction roar. Took it out last spring to clean and oil it (very dusty conditions here in southern Spain), wouldn't consider going back to a paper one.

I've fitted K&N filters (in air box ones) to both of the T2's i've had & noticed a difference straight away ie much better throttle response, a bit more power & a slight increase in MPG:thumb2 if you go for an induction kit you will gain a bit extra power but you really need to add a cold air feed pipe from the front grill & a little heat shield wouldn't go a miss. I have made up an induction kit for the T2 before using a huge K&N filter off a TVR & an old MAF unit body that was cut for the filter to bolt onto & which bolted straight onto the factory MAF & it's worked great for the lad who's using it

Depends on what your going to be doing with your motor if it's going to be going off road then best to fit the in air box type but if it's just going to be a road going motor then there will be no probs with an induction kit:thumbs

After going off road, just wip it off and clean.

Just keep out of deep water

Made up my mind, will go for the replacement filter, not the full kit, as especially in winter I regularly have to drive through water (flooded farm roads).
