Tried to go out in the T2 yesterday and found clutch pedal sticking, couldn't drive it so made me late having to change car's.

Wife took it down to local garage and he phoned me and said there was no fluid in res. He can't find any sign of where it's gone despite me asking him to trace the damper pipe.

He's topped it back up and it's just a case of use it and keep an eye on it.

Has anyone got any ideas on this please.

Jim

have a look at the back end of the t2.. may be there....

theres a pipe running to the back..

Had similar problem some time ago. Fluid was leaking from pipe around where it connects to the tramsmission casing as far as I can remember. It was a short pipe section with a rectangluar block end fitting on it. Had to get it from dealer. Couldn't see the fluid leaking or on the ground but when was up on lift at garage and clutch was pressed you could see the leak. Can't remember what exactly the pipe/connector was called or where exactly underneath it was located.

two potential places, there's a three way block joint at the bottom of the clutch pipe, one is the line in, the other is the damper which often rusts through at the end (found at the back of the vehicle, right hand side) and the 3rd goes to the clutch slave... fitted to the external part of the housing and pushing a lever which moves the clutch..... move the rubber boot back and if there's fluid........... alternatively, check the muddy bit where the damper pipe goes at the back of the vehicle for signs of damp oil...

Also check inside the car on the bulkhead where the push rod comes in to the clutch pedal. The seals in the clutch master cylinder and the fluid can leak past the seal and run down the bulkhead behind the carpet  takes ages for a wet patch to appear on the carpet and fluid seems to just evaporate......

Well guys thanks for the reply's. At the weekend I checked inside the car and had a really good feel around but no signs of fluid inside the car from the master cylinder. I just didn't have time to check the pipes. So far all seems well with the clutch.

Perhaps you had an air lock somewhere that has cleared itself, its a mystery!
Keep you eye on it but hopefully its all sorted now for you

Hi All,

My mum had exactly the same thing on her Hyundai Accent...
Clutch fluid level dropping with no signs of leaks.
Turned out to be the leaking into the Brake servo, this was slowly filling up with fluid. Hence no signs of a leak anywhere.

Might be worth a look.

Cheers
Steve.

Unless you have parked the car upside down, then the fluid must have gone somewhere, it may have been a very slow leak, over a long time, and eventually the level got to the point where air entered.

So when was the last time you checked the fluid level.?:nenau
1 month then expect the problem to come back in 1 months time..

2 years...... as above. :augie

If it has leaked into the cab via the master cylinder, expect paint bubbling around that area, as brake fluid is a very effective paint remover....
