Where is vacuum motor?

If anyone can show me a pic of one fitted I'd be grateful.

Seems the td and tdi are different.

Rick seems to think below injector pump? For the tdi too?

I'm.gonna strip.bash plate and a magic perished hose will immediately show itself...

Not got any pics but mine is just under the injector pump.
Follow the hose from the servo,mine goes across back of engine,then down towards alternator where it tees off.one pipe goes under engine to vac pump and the other up to actuater thingy on inner wing under air box.
Check all the rubber sections for splits.

Some did have the vac pump on the back of the alternator but I think that was the earlier td engine:nenau

Any more tests I can do?

I have checked the one way valve in the servo by sucks and blowing (ooh err) :naughty it will allow you to suck but resistance if blowing.

I have disconnected the hose off of it turned the engine on and it sucks my thumb, when I turn he engine off it looses the suction.

I have checked for visual leaks or cracks as far as I can trace to the muddy bottom :lol

The 3 solenoid things underneath the airbox had an air hose running to two of them (off the main hose) one of them as completely disconnected :nenau:nenau:nenau

Still no difference, pedal is solid.

Someone from my work asked if the Terrano has a vacuum reserve reservoir :nenau

so you have vacuum! the vac reservoir is in the Lucas servo unit, did the brake fluid test on the servo/cylinder joint reveal anything, if not then probably your servo has failed, I have several here, Rick

No could not see any fluid enter the gap (metal on metal) with the two bolts. :thumb2

Any other tests I can do to confirm? :nenau

Very bad timing for me though...

Missus just started new job so forked out 300 quid for travel, and cb radio... Not two pennies to rub together... Even for fuel :doh

I feel a trip coming on next month if not fixed though :naughty

well I can post a servo to you, but we do not know for sure it is this, just a recap, get in car pump brake till hard, place foot on pedal hard, start engine, does pedal go down? Rick

I will confirm in a moment but brake is already immediately hard.

Ok update, pump pedal engine off - pedal is hard
Hold foot on brake and turn engine on, no dipping of pedal it remains hard.

Does this suggest servo? :nenau

Weird and coincidental time to die although I had noted months before occasional back pressure on pedal sometimes.. :nenau

Press and Depress have just a subtle difference in meaning, but "Depress" never means "release".

Basically,
"Press" means to touch with a bit of pressure, it does not mean the item you are pressing will move. You can press your head against your girlfriends shoulder... you "Press" a shirt, again it flattens out but does not move. You press the buttons on the touch screen of your smart phone/tablet.

"Depess" means to "press so that movement happens", So you depress a computer key on a keyboard, you depress the pedals on a car. You "double depress" the clutch on old vehicles that did not have syncromesh. Although that is usually called "double declutching", and again "declutching" doesn't meant you release or remove the clutch!

So, all in all, not a completely wasted thread. You should have learnt many things from it.

• If you had read the thread properly, you would have discovered it was your brake servo before you took all your brakes apart.
• If you had read the thread properly, you would have seen that practically everyone was telling you from the word go, it was related to the Vacuum/Servo.
• If you had read the thread properly, you could have fault found this problem without even lifting the bonnet.
• You have learnt some basics of the English language
• You have escaped "Rustic's wrath" and sarcasm.:lol

Actually I am happy I stripped the brakes as they needed a clean up, and now I am capable of doing them again.

I have one remaining question the technicians have asked before I source a servo.

Does the Vac pump self lubricate off engine oil, if so they suggest as seen in the past (on Jags) the oil could have been forced into the servo. If the unit is a sealed unit then yes servo :thumb2

Can anyone help? sealed vac pump or lubricated by engine oil? :nenau

No not Hamerited, still in original gloss black paint, even that gets the odd coat of wax... as does the air filter :augie

I try to keep the original paintwork where possible, only exception are the front bumper out riggers that take all the cr*p in the wheel arches, other than that, waxoyl all under...
