Hi guys, it's fixed!:clap

Thanks to everyone's input, it's all valuable ideas thought and experience that makes this such a great forum:thumb2

Managed to get the hub and the dodgy little circlip off and nip the bearing up which has removed the play.

Might know why the brakes thing didn't work, haven't bled the brakes properly yet. Just bled the passenger side front where I've fitted the new caliper. Wanted to wait until I had looked at the driverside brakes first, didn't see point of bleeding twice if they needed taking apart.

So big thanks as usual guys:clap

Well pleased with my self tonight. Dropped the truck off the axle stands sunday evening and moved it over so that I could get to the driverside and sure enough same movement. So tonight jacked it up and sat it on stands again and set about adjusting the wheel bearing. Had it all sorted in 20 mins:clap:clap

The project truck has given me confidence back:thumb2

Probably a daft question but I've adjusted the wheel bearings on my old truck with the wheels on and it was easy to tell when the movement had been taken up.
With the 17" wheels it's going to be different in the fact that the wheels have to be off to get to the centre of the hubs.
Suppose it'll be a case of tighten bearing and pop the wheel back on and test for movement.

As Rick said earlier in this thread tighten them up until movements gone and then nip up to next set of screw holes.

I've answered my own question here, I used spare wheel from my other truck so that it gave me purchase to test movement but also allowed access to the bearing locking rings at the same time.
