Wheel bearing has gone on front drivers side. Thought I'd attempt the job myself even with my limited mechanical skills. I've been following Banshee's download which has been a great help. My Terrano is an 05 and straight from the off seems to have different parts i.e not the same spacers. I'll provide some pics.
Problem 1 was the calliper bolts were seized, but I've managed to get them off "eventually" !
Main problem now is the bearing race seems to of welded it's self to the shaft and doesn't look like it's moving. I don't want to be defeated but I'm stuck for ideas of how to remove it and certainly don't want to damage the spindle. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Craig

Just one circlip and no washers ? Hope this is correct and someone hasn't bodged it previously. Circlip came off very easily as though it was poor fitting.

A bearing puller, something like this:

Coupled with some heat.

Or a cut with a 1mm angle grinder disk and a wack with a chisel

Instead of Allen key bolts, it had 13mm standard bolts and hub cap.

Cheers Ray, aren't the bearing pullers just for front bearing only. Will it work on back bearing ?

Biggest issue is what the puller centre bolt bears down on, in your case it would be the end of the half shaft, I'd be cautious about transferring too much force into the rear diff through the shaft.
If your uncomfortable with that then plan 2, slash cut - not right through and break with chisel.
Rick (Solarman) will probably have an idea or two also, see if he chimes in with a suggestion.....

BTW my vehicle (2002) also also sports nuts in lieu of cap heads.

Not sure which write up that you are talking about but most likely is that yours are fixed front hubs and the write up may of been auto locking hub.
That would explain lack of washers and defo the difference in bolts.

As a back up, I would enquire about a second hand complete hub assembly, and replace the lot, plenty of second hand ones around. Just ask.

Yes you have fixed front hubs, part of a " how can we make these cars cheaper project?" they also removed the grease nipples on the front prop shaft too. :doh

Front bearings when maintained and adjusted properly last a very long time. You may have encountered water ingress at some time.

i`d recomend a bit of heat and a nice sharp chisel! :thumb2

In this situation a mini angle grinder and cut it at about 45 deg as deep as you can without touching the stub axle or the rear seal runner, then a good hard hit with a good chisel and heavy hammer should split the bearing, I would be cautious of using heat enough to soften the bearing as it will need to be high enough to alter the temper of the stub axle, Rick ps I have stubs if you need

Heat and something sharp mate.

I managed to get a 0.8mm Slitting disc on my angle grinder to get mine off and didn't damage the spindle being careful, it turned out that my bearing that had fractured had done a number on the spindle and I had to replace it.

If it's fused on like that I'd be expecting some damage underneath, if it comes off without much grief you might be able to emery cloth it back down smooth :thumb2

Wear some hand and eye protection bud the fragments can go anywhere

Back in the day I used a chisel and lump hammer to remove similar bearings from rear axles. Handy if you can grind it a bit first with an angle grinder to make a groove that will take the chisel tip. Bearing steel has high compresive strength like concrete but not so good with tensile forces it is quite brittle once you start to give it some lump hammer.

Top safety tip wear eye protection and some gloves. I had a metal splinted of bearing lodged in my forefinger for about 4 months before it came to the surface.

I manage to remove the race cases while i was waiting for my old man to turn up with his dremel type tool.

Bingo ! Manage to put a hairline crack in it which gave it enough movement to free it's self with a bit of help from the hammer and chisel.

All back together and sorted now. Thanks again for all your advice and help. I feel really pleased with myself. I know it's not a massive job, but personally more than I've attempted before on any vehicle I've owned. Made possible by you guys, your support and dedication to this site. It really is a pleasure to be part of such a great group :thumb2
