From Harrogate it Started.

I thought it were Whitby...?

"From Harrogate it started" was a film in its own right - I was commenting about the previous listed film. ts the story of the 1971 RAC rally, soundtrack by The Who, helicopter and aeroplane shot sequences, for its day for a motorsport "video" it was very big budget, classic rallying action at its best.

I know I'm gonne regret asking this, but whats with the two scuba divers?

Thats was the famous (well in certain circles) Esholt Sewage Works stage near Bradford. The scuba divers were there, and elsewhere in the stage I beleive, in case anyone got it wrong and ended up it the poo, both figuratively and literally.

Even now its not uncommon for there to be rescue boats and divers on station on some rally special stages. I'm not sure but I think they do on the Great Orme in Wales and Marine Drive on the Isle of Man, also Rother Valley near Sheffield (though thats not been used for a couple of years).

Jeez I wouldn't want to be doing Great Orme at speed and have a fall-off!

Interesting background - ta!

Yeah - I've not done the falling off bit but the at speed bit was fairly hair raising and being in the left hand seat the drop was only too apparent all the way. Driver was on his first time using slicks and as we were at the back of the field there was a fair amount of debris that had been pulled on to the road from people cutting the inside - interesting ride.
