You might find the cheaper tyre will have different characteristics such as higher road noise on Tarmac or Concrete surfaces as well as different wear rates and wet grip.

If you are not a 'driver' and cost is the issue nothing will sway you to spending more money.

I look at it another way, the contact area of your tyre is all that holds you to the road when you are driving or braking hard or when cornering etc.

What value do you put on having the best tyre you can afford to save your life if you had to make that emergency stop ?

I have only once really needed to do an emergency stop it was many years ago on the M1.
It was my own fault as I was looking at an idiot reversing up the hard shoulder as he had missed his junction.

Me and my passengers were watching the carnage behind us when I realised the traffic ahead had come to a full stop. I stood on the brakes on my old Mk1 Cooper S as I made an impossible attempt to brake from about 80 m.p.h. to zero in a few hundred feet.

Smoke poured from my front tyres and the noise that the Michelin XAS tyres made was the loudest screetch you could imagine. I stopped about four inches from the back of a stationary car. I am sure that the tyres were what saved me so I have always gone for the best I can afford.

Knew the answer really but was just struck how simular they looked. Lot to be said for paying that bit extra, been running on cheep MTs for a year and to be honest they've coped with everything I've thown at them , snow, mud, rain and grip on dry roads is far better than I expected, even won a trial on them ;O). Down side though is after a year and a bit and not a great milage they will need changing soon ;O(


So starting to look what's around , definately 31s this time and probably ATs as not planning to off road much in the Mav as I'm sick of washing it ;O)

BFG are the toughest & most accurate ( with regards to size ) for 4x4's & are ultra tough meaning you can do mega mile's.

Pretty much all the copy's are remould's all bar a few & are softer & the side wall's won't be as hard.

Also look at :

NEXEN ROADIAN MT a direct copy of the HANKOOK RT03 but cheaper & they are more aggressive than a A/T but not as harsh as a M/T :thumbs

I am running on Hankook RT03's on Dirty Frog & Will also be putting them on Dirty Devil but dropping down to 215/75R15

deffo, thats whats going on my new terrano

ref price differences above, the at2 falls nicely between

bfg quality, maybe more, and for less.

certainly a very useful rim bead protector.

try black circles, good deals on local fitting too.

Well I guess I'm not a 'driver' what ever that is, but I do have to motor on a budget an I've got some of those economy (Forceum) tyres on my T2 and they are quite acceptable for £75.00 fitted, balanced with new valves.

Yep the Insa's are a remould and the BFG's are the dogs danglies!!!

I had the insa traction trac's an must say they were awesome and really tough sidewalls too.

Try Pete Ambler at spondon tyres, tell him how much you have to spend and he'll do you a good deal.

I have a new set of 16" Insa Turbo Rangers fitted on my T2 ..............
1.There is no road noise at all
2.The whole feel of the car has improved steering and ride
3.I can not fault them offroad ......they have managed to get me out of some real rutted wet ole farmland tracks .
4 .At motorway speeds and above they behave very well (Well I am still here aint I :thumbs)

I drive on flint farmland ,sand , chalk , heavy stone tracks and can say that I feel safe and glad I bought them
