Who else out there has had a Terrano and Patrol, or driven both offroad?

I remember my terrano I had, and when in 4wd you could really feel it huncker down and grip, obviously with the lsd in the back.

The uk Patrol on the other hand has open diffs front and back. It has a locker but how often is that used, I would rather have a lsd like the jap market and aussie market.

Because of this I think 98% of the time the Terry's 4wd system is better.

What do others think about this?

Blimey mate.

This nation's close enough to civil war already, no need to accelerate it.

I've not really been on to see whats been happening, if so, any space behind that wall for me to hide lol

I have both and defo prefer the Patrol offroad. Allbeit open diffs I hardly ever need to engage the rear locker. It's so good straight out the box. I've driven my T2 to the absolute limit and love it to bits but the Patrol wins for me, just :)

Performance is probably down to vehicle modifications, tyres especially, increased ground clearance, but comparing like with like straight off the production line, then in my opinion is that the Patrol has the edge. A very small edge, but more to do with track width of giving better stability.

Once you start modding then it is a new ball game.

Personally I think the patrol has the edge but that said I've seen terrano's hold their own and make things look easy.
Mainly down to the individual and the set up:thumb2

I've got a lot of respect for the Terranos but in my opinion the Trols have the edge. When my rear difflock was working I didn't use very often because I didn't need it much of the time, the articulation from the solid axles meant that she could bimble through sections where Terranos needed a bit more work/thought to get through due to the IFS (the lsd helps but doesn't compensate for the reduced articulation) :nenau

If you're trying to decide whether a locker or lsd are better then it's definitely a locker due to the fact one gives a truly locked axle and one doesn't but I do wish I could put a Trol lsd in the back though as I've heard it's a great combination with the lokka in the front since the Trol ones are meant to be very good and neither an lsd nor a lokka need to be switched on or off.

Is there an auto locker available for the rear of the Patrol?

Yeah I just wish they put a lsd in the uk trols :doh

You can get them but the problem with auto lockers in the rear is that your rear tyres take a beating on corners as you've no diff anymore :nenau

had both and think lsd has edge, ok its not a locker but its there all the time, even on road in 2wd, ok suppose a locker can be used in 2wd but got to lock it at right time and be sure to unlock it too.

the trol had stabilizer release too though didnt rough it as much. prefered narrow t2 on the walled lanes of derbyshire though never ran out of room was tighter.

whilst both model's agricultral part time systems are their strength for ease and reliability still sometimes wish had more choice like the shogun transfer with a road suitable 4hi. also found in pathfinder, but keeping a lever operation, non of this push button or heater dial style.

My y60 has rear lsd (as its a safari not patrol) and i would always prefer rear lsd over a locker, just my preference If i had a locker i would always choose front locker, again just my preference as my theory is a front wheel drive pulls you out instead of pushes you through. Only had a couple of y60's with locker and one i had to engage the locker to get off a flat section of wet grass, lsd would have just coped fine..... i also prefer the patrol over terrano, again my preference, i like solid axles under both ends, terrano front ends are weak without modification. The D21 terrano is the only style ive owned, this one had ARB airlocker in front and lsd rear but i stuck with patrols after this one.

Its an old debate but its all down to what you prefer and what your vehicle comes with...

Nice looking truck, the rivets around the wheel arches really sets it off. :thumb2

Might be seeing more of those on Rotten Terrano front wings lol, but really look good.:thumb2

They didnt rust out on this one, i just didnt have a welder and needed to move up the arches to take the 33" tyres, i just cut the lip off and moved it up as far as possible and rivited on lol..

Was a nice truck actually shame it was a v6 petrol..

Martin although i love all patrols the Y60 has alot more feel to it over the y61 and i cant describe it really even though they have virtually the same running gear.. i can honestly say hand on heart if i won the lottery i would be buying y60 patrols over any modern plug in bullshit, i would just have them restored or modified to different levels. dreams are great:thumb2... having said that i would also be buying a merc G wagon AMG.....

A man with a bloody fine taste!!!!! Good show :naughty

I agree with most said and agree with above, i'd have lsd everytime over rear locker, just cant believe Nissan sometimes.

Ive got to order a Lokka for the front some point soon.

Daemo your car list has been epic so it has :clap

My ideal set up on a T2 would be a Lokka on the front (which I have) and a positive lockable dif on the rear, the number of times I have been stopped cos one rear wheel has been in the air depriving the other of full drive, I have whished I could flick a switch and make wheel in contact turn, rest my case, Rick

The front LOKKA has changed the whole dynamic of my truck, my Maverick would get stuck so easy on the most embarrassing of ground, I've only managed to get my Terrano stuck twice I think (Barrbeast to the rescue both times) but that was before I had the LOKKA fitted and was on slick 31's trying to go through a hole way bigger than I should have dared :lol

Barrbeast also got stuck in the same hole and was then pulled out by Patrolman Steve :lol

Patrol or Terrano ?

I have always liked the stance of the Patrol they just seem to have a don't mess with me air about them be they old or newer models.

I am biased of course but I have always liked the Terrano r3mR version for its Coil Spring Suspension all round, Rack & Pinon Steering and wider body.

Though I am not an off-roader or Shed Dragger (No offence intended) I would have the Patrol just for the "Street Presence" you know it makes sense.

Go with the Emotion and the Locomotion will follow! lol

Couldn't agree more .
Now I'm trialing it's a weak edge showing itself a little.
I also think but not checked that the Patrol actually has a better turning circle :nenau
