hi now i bought the terrano want the 4x4 working for winter how do u test if the auto free hubs are working and if not and they need need brakes for them is it worth spending £35 each side more than just the brake replacement and get some manual 1s cant wait to here from any1 thanks.

I had trouble in the snow last year when my auto hubs weren't working after a strip down and grease they worked like a dream.there is a workshop in the download section on how to doit well worth a try before parting with cash. If they are fooked I'd pay the bit extra and get manuals

thers loads abotu this on here if you do a seaarch, personaly i would clean and re-lube, your autos, any sign of trouble bin them and get manuals. But if the autos work keep them unitl they don't.

ok thanks for the tips i will drive in stright line and then turn the steering wheel if i cant feel any diff can i jack up front wheels then turn them by hand shoundt they try and turn the drive shaft to the front diff im guessing if they dont then they are not working does that sound right with the steering is there a def notice this wind up thanks.

If you just jack it up then turn the driveshafts by hand the auto locker will engage and turn the wheel this will ensure they both work as just putting it in 4 wheel drive maybe only one side has locked in.To unlock just spin the wheel back in opposite direction

my test method,

find a verge with a kerb, reverse up and stop with the wheels being chocked by the kerb, give it a bit of welly and the back wheels spin.

drive forward a meter or so, select 4x4, now reverse up until kerb chocks front wheels, give it a bit more revs if hubs are engaged it will climb the kerb.

dissengage 4x4 dirve forwards, then repeat step one to make sure the hubs have disengaged, simple!

but try not to damage the verge :doh :thumbs
