What you make of this?

we dug it up when we were building our new shed a while back. at first I ignored it but kept it out of interest but never really looked at it. Took another look recently, and realised it looked like an entrenchment tool, so googled it, and yes, seems like it is...??

Get it cleaned up and don't let it deteriorate anymore. Might not be worth much money but priceless for interest and history.

not sure. on invetigation, i make it a WW2 U.S. entrenchment tool

the handle is worn of course, so not as pronounced as a brand new one, but it matches pics i found on the web...!

oh, not interested in money but I am VERY interested in what history it holds. Will find out the best way to clean it up...

tell me about it!! its just time and money, but im PLANNING on doing it this summer when the wood is fully dried. I need to do the decking, and my garage and garage extension and the decking rails....:lol

oh dont worry i wasnt expecting anything more then it being an entrenching tool, but i am very interested in what history it holds, if any! I find it amazing that this tool would have been on somebody's pack and could possibly have seen action...or....he never used it and dumped it in the garden after the war. OR, bought it in a shop. still....

I have one exactly the same, had it for so long I've forgot where I bought it but probably at an ex army store somewhere in the UK. I keep it under the back seat of my T2 'just in case'. The blade can be locked in the position yours is or at right angles to the handle, to use it as a 'pick' for 'digging in' or it can be folded flat against the handle for compact storage. That is of course if the castellated alloy nut just before the blade, can be screwed back or forward to lock the blade in the required position. It looks like yours, after years of being buried, might need soaking in an oil bah for a while before you can move it. As for whatever tales it might tell - who knows?

cheers matey, thats some interesting info there, i think i will give it a good soak and try clean it up. Already started making use of it in one of my pet Rabbits outdoor run as a normal spade is too big!
