what satnav do you use?

hi,

satnav seems to be the lastest must have and now prices are tumbling, there seems to be an almost never ending choice.

all in one solutions, pdas, external gps receivers for laptops and even some mobile phones!

so whats your choice?

tomtom500, cost a fortune, but in my opinion the best - until a friend showed me his tomtom 1, up dated, smaller, cheaper and comes complete with speed cameras and silly voices as standard. Maps still up to 2 years out of date. Gets you there in the end though.

Just getting used to the one fitted in my Pathfinder. It's a little different from the Tomtom & Navman I use on my Ipaq. I do like the ability to give it voice instructions but missing my speed camera warnings.

I got TomTom One mainly because it is flat and the other TomTom's seem to have a lump on the back of the case if, they tend to be bulky and not the kind of thing that would fit in your pocket. I also bought my self a bigger memory card for it but be carefull as not all are compatable with the units. Got mine from PC World as they were giving a free case with it as well.

I also have POI's (Points Of Interest) and Voices as well as Speed Cams if anyone wants owt.

I use a Mio Mitec 269.

Reason I bought that one was because it had full european street level maps on internal harddrive and I wanted it to tour Spain

Got really sick of the other brands marketing then getting hit with the european maps will be an extra £100+ 8O

It has served me well over the last 12 months and have just upgraded the maps (free) and it is even better, with more features

search tomtom on e-bay, there was some one selling speed camera downloads for £2 plus postage

i use voice by turn route66 on my nokia 6680 smart phone, oh yes it can mke calls too :rotfl:

Tom Tom sat nav

Will not use the Tom Tom when towing the caravan it cant tell the caravan is on the back of your 4x4 and will try and send you down silly streets.Mywife has never got me lost and she even got a group of us towing caravans to a campsite in Arnhem, Holland.Tom Tom may send you on the most direct route but 1/4 mile from my house it will always send me down a narrow street instead of staying on the A road whichis the same every route option i use.Tom Tom 5/10 Wife 10/10

Ian, try changing preferences to Shortest rather than quickest. Mine sometimes does that type of thing but I kind of got used to it now.

I use a Mitec pda with viamichelin software. It has it's limitations and I prefer paper maps especially with a caravan. Missus and maps have never got us lost.

I remember give you directions to tescos at wicksteed park and you got lost and you had you sat nav with you but still like the old map to get me places if that dont work then i ask my dad :lol: .
