What Lead Lamp to buy ?

My 20 odd year old lead lamp is in need of replacement it had an economy bulb fitted but it didn't have much of a beam as the old white painted reflector had gone brown ! I tried using the spot light type bulbs but they kept blowing as they were not the rough service type.

Looking to buy a replacement but having seen the ones the Techies at work use I am not very impressed with the cordless LED ones they seem to favour.

I want one that will have enough of a beam that it will work in daylight as well as when it's dark. Ideally it will have a clip to hold it in position.

Anyone here got any recommendations ?
The price is not really an issue as it will probably be my last one unless I run over it lol.

Yep I have one of those too. Awesome battery time on the lower setting, and that is flippin' bright enough

What LED lamp to buy ?

Thanks Guys that's just the kind of thing I like the look of.

Not sure whether to go for the cheaper one with a mains only lead or the re-chargeable one ?

The cheaper one has the advantage that there is no battery to fail over time then again a re-chargeable one could be carried in the boot as an emergency light or when I am up in the loft fixing the ball cock in the header tank ?

I too have the rechargeable version. I've found if you don't use it for a while the battery discharges so you have to charge it again before using. Probably better for people who use it regularly although it's very handy not having a trailing cable. Also when using it and the battery goes flat it doesn't go dim, it just turns off.

Initially I wanted the mains powered version, I hate anything rechargeable, (except drill lol) as when the batteries go it usually costs more to buy batteries than buy a new one. So If I get the rechargeable, I can use it in the car, at the boat, at the moorings when out and about... When and it is a when... the batteries become useless, it wouldn't be difficult to fit a power supply lead with a set voltage supply most likely 7.2 volts ( not confirmed) from 12 volt or 240 volt etc...

Compared to my 150 watt halogen worklight, that tries to burn anything placed a foot or closer in front of it, the fact I have burns on my arm from catching it, and if I jar it when moving it... "dink" and instant darkness, and the smoke you get when waxoyl drops onto it... I think the led one should win hands down.

Height might be an issue though, might be too tall for confined spaces, unless the handle can be removed.

I always like to see what else is available, cpcfarnell, nothing to touch the price.

Toolstation, they have IP 65 version, so better for use outside, some have usb output charge facility. But can't do the hours cf to Screwfix one.

They also show one which has replacement batteries, but you try the link to the batteries, and they are no longer supplied... what a con.

Screwfix has the edge so far, and with a 2 year guarantee... don't loose the receipt lol :thumb2

The main reason for buying at Screwfix is the 2 yr warranty. I have loads of stuff changed by them on an 18month cycle if you know what I mean
The ones I have from screwfix may not be advertised as Ip rated but I've used mine in the rain with no ill effect. They also come with in car chargers.

That thought has not escaped me as it's often useful to have one at each side or each end of the vehicle to cut out the shadow effect !

Might even be able to throw a few Shadow Puppets !

Got to admit I've recharged mine several times in the car from the second battery. It's come in really useful several times too it's just a case of keeping an eye on the charge.

Well in the end went for this one as it was only a tad bigger than the 11 w version might ask the missus to get me the re-chargeable one for my birthday in May.

The wing nut bit is for attaching the lamp to it's floor stand
The rechargable one is the same money mind ??

True but the lamp will screw to the floor stand using the big Plastic Knob on top as per fitting diagram as the shouldered bolt tightens against the inside top of the base.

The picture shows the wing nut being put on upside down and all it seems to do is butt up against the shoulder when it reaches the end of the thread and enables you to rotate the plastic bit to align the tag?



If you try the threaded bolt / stud the other way round it will not fit!

I thought the idea was to fit the bolt (inc wing nut) to the floor stand. Then you fit the lamp to it, or move it away as you need but leaving the bolt on the stand.
